That's great news...I believe it is a one-way contract too.
I read somewhere that with this signing the Avs now have 10 NHL dmen signed to one-way contracts. Apparently Roy likes to have 8 to have 4 pairings to use during practice, but that still means that 2 are likely gone. With this signing, I like to believe that Elliott is someone they want to keep. I'm curious which two will be sent down to the minors at the risk of being claimed.

According to this source it's his qualifying offer, one year, two-way contract. Sakic mentioned in his news conference on July 2nd that he expected Elliott to sign his QO.

ah, thanks for the clarification. Like you said, though, he is likely going to be in the NHL because he has to clear waivers to be sent down. That is probably what I had read. I just remember something about the Avs needing to do something or risk losing possibly 2 of their 10 (currently under contract) dmen.

The Avs defensive depth is interesting, as the Top 5 appear to be chiseled in stone, and then they have 5 more guys, all of whom you could make a case for.
The only player in their Top 5 who I could see maybe dropping out is Stuart, because he's old, slow, a possession disaster, and could easily be outplayed by some of the younger guys on the roster - the only good news is that he's a UFA after this season.
Elliot is in tough with this roster as he's in the mix for a 6/7 slot to start the year with Gervais/Guenin/Wilson/Redmond, plus he has Bigras and Siemens breathing down his neck from the minor leagues as well.
It's a tough situation for Elliot, I wouldn't bet on him seeing much action this year if he stays with the Avs.

I agree with most everything here, apart from Stuart seeing that kind of icetime.
Of all the moves the Avs have made this off-season, the Stuart one bothers me to no end.
I also expect Ryan Wilson to see a few more minutes than most people are expecting, he wasn't that bad in the playoffs, and could still turn it around.

Most people seem to think Wilson will be dealt or buried. He hasn't fit in to Roy's defensive system for whatever reason.
