Default Has Kris Letang been asked to submit a trade list?

I heard on TSN Montreal radio station this morning that Letang has been asked to submit his 15 team list that he would accept a trade to, but can't find confirmation anywhere else.

    Has anyone else heard this?

BTW they were excited because Montreal is on the list of teams that he would go to.

Good break down from Pensburgh.com of Pittsburgh's cap issues with only 18 players signed for this season with only $7.3M cap space.

    From the article:
According to Capgeek, the Pens are pressed up against the cap pretty closely and will have to, in the words of Jim Rutherford, come up with something "pretty creative" in order to ice a 23 man roster on October 9th when the Pens start the regular season.

The Pens have about $7.3.M in cap space remaining to fill the remaining five spots. The most recent reports indicate that both Sutter and Spaling, who are in ongoing contract negotiations, will resign withe Pittsburgh, filling out the final 12th and 13th forward spots, shoring up what looks to be a formidable bottom 6, but carrying subtracting significantly from the remaining cap space. Spaling is seeking a raise, putting his cap hit over $2M, while Sutter could be getting closer to $4M.

With anywhere from $5.5M to over $6M being paid to these two players, the Pens will be left with only five Dmen on the roster, only 20 players signed, and less than $2M to remedy that.

•Elizabeth Rancourt of TVA Sports: (s/t - L.A. Lariviere and Google translate) Kris Letang was asked by Penguins GM Jim Rutherford last month to submit a list of 15 teams that he’d accept a trade too. Letang said that the Canadiens were one team on his list.

Pens should think long and hard about whether they really want to sign Brandon Sutter. At $4m that's really going to cause cap issues, and Goc can definitely fill in admirably as a 3C if necessary. Also, with guys like Dumoulin, Harrington, etc. ready for a chance at meaningful minutes in the NHL this season, I wouldn't be too worried about $2m being paid to 3 Dmen to fill out the roster, in the event Sutter gets close to $4m. Don't get me wrong, I think Sutter is a good player but he's just going to be too expensive for what he brings to the table.

Elizabeth wouldn't be related to this guy would she?

I still don't see anybody being interested in Letang at his price... until he shows he can play 40 quality games.
Still surprised they even signed him last summer.
I... for one... thought they'd be better off trading him... link.

Perhaps they would've been better off.

Not sure if this is news worthy or just standard procedure with players with limited NTC clauses. I don't expect Letang to go anywhere.

The cap situation is tight but manageable. There isn't any cap issues currently unless they create some with Spaling's and Sutter's new contracts. If they get those two with combined $5.3 million ($2 million for Spaling, $3.3 million for Sutter) it will be fine. Despres will take what's left then (one-way, one year deal). Samuelsson and Megna will fill out the roster. That would just barely fit under the cap.

This is what I fundamentally do not understand.
Why the **** would you sign a guy to an 8 yr deal only to try to trade him the minute the contract starts?

Who the hell is going to want to pay $7.25 mil/year for 40 games a year?

Well the guy who signed him is no longer the man in charge in Pittsburgh.

As for Letang's durability, here's a fun fact for you: Letang is the only player who has played in all of Penguins' playoff games since they won the Cup. So when it counts the most, Letang is always ready to play. Even a stroke couldn't make him miss the playoffs. Doesn't do much good for fantasy hockey owners though...

Another fun fact: In 93 NHL playoff games, Kris Letang is a +4. That gives him a +0.04 per game.

Pretty sure this is standard for players who have NTCs. Have to submit their list of teams, but of course since Letang is rumored to be on the move it becomes a big deal.

Just don't see him getting moved. No GM will take his cap hit without at least a season of full productivity and limited injury.

This is accurately inaccurate. I'm sure as a FA, many GMs in the league would pay Letang exactly what he is making. So in that sense, tons of GMs would take Letang at his current cap hit. The disconnect comes when other GMs have to give up assets. So really more accurately,

Not many (if any) GMs would be willing to part with the assets Pittsburgh would require to move Letang given his current cap hit and recent injury history.
