Well first off, not a bad looking team - where did you place last season?
So when do you have to pare down your roster to 25? Where are you sitting for draft picks? Got anyone hot for any of your players at the moment via trade?
Moving into next season both Pavelski and Couture will both be raking in 6 Mil. Pav's gets a 2 Mil bump and Couture a nice fat 4 Mil raise. Between those two salary increases the increased cap in our league is pretty much eaten up! So, the question is, are Pavelski and Couture worth 6 Mil? The Sharks seem to have stayed the course by extending both Marleau and Big Joe so it looks like the Sharks will look much like they did last year. Pavelski is coming off a great year while Couture struggled. What would you guys do, eat the new contracts or look at moving the cap hit of one or both? Team is in sig.

This team finished 4th last year. I am thinking I should be very competitive this year if a number of my young guys continue to improve (Saad, Schiefle, MacK and yes Couture). Lots of time to figure things out, drops are not due until mid Sept. Right now I have a few guys hot for Dubinsky, Hartnell and Kronwall. I said this in a previous thread, but my big concern is how Hiller is going to make out in Calgary. Certainly I anticipate a drop in the numbers he posted in Anaheim, but how bad will it be. Drafts are Okay but could be better for sure, one in each of ten rounds so, 8th overall, 20th, 32 and so on.

Just a quick comment, something to keep in mind. Couture and Pavelski are the future of the Sharks (along with Hertl perhaps) once Joe and Marleau move on. That said, I strongly believe that Couture will be the better player, that he underperformed, and that the hand injury pretty much wrecked what was looking like a solid breakout season. Pavelski, on the other hand, just went on a roll. He's a solid player too, and might have a slight advantage in hits, but I think that was a career year for him... He's not an 80 point player under most circumstances, whereas I think Couture is closer to being this. Just my two cents.

Couture is coming into his prime, and will be the face of the franchise in the next couple of years. Pavelski, as stated above, had a career year and will likely never hit the 80 point mark in his career. I would be shipping him out if you can't handle both salaries.

I'd be trying to trade Pavs and keep Couture. Hell, I'm trying to trade Pavs and I don't even have his cap hit to worry about. I love him as a player, he just simply overperformed last year.
I'd move Pavelski if there's a market for him. 79 points at 4M is awesome, but he's just hit 30 and his point per game average over his career is 0.74 AKA 60.68 (we'll round up to 61) pts in an 82 game season. He won't hit 80 again. I think 65 is safe, but 65 points at 6M isn't anything special.
I would tie a Pavelski and Dubinsky trade together... with Dubinsky signing a big contract as well one of those two should probably go to a place to get you better performance on D and more top quality youth to come. I would rather deal Dubinsky than Pavelski unless his peripherals really help you, as his point totals won't match up with his upcoming salary.
