Question Is KUZNETSOV eligible to win the Calder ??

Kutznetsov has only played 17 games with the Washington Capitals and is 22 years old

He has played in previous seasons with his KHL club.

DOES THIS MAKE HIM ELIGIBLE FOR THE CALDER or Not?

    These are the NHL rules....

To be eligible for the award, a player cannot have played more than 25 games in any single preceding season nor in six or more games in each of any two preceding seasons in any major professional league. Beginning in 1990-91, to be eligible for this award a player must not have attained his twenty-sixth birthday by September 15th of the season in which he is eligible. The latter fact was perhaps most prominent when in 1979–80, first-year phenom Wayne Gretzky was not eligible to win the Calder Trophy despite scoring 137 points (the previous rookie record at the time being 95), because he had played a full season in the World Hockey Association in 1978-79. The Toronto Maple Leafs lead all teams with nine players who've won the Calder.

NHL.com had him listed as a rookie last season (which to me implies Calder eligibility), and since he didn't play 25 games, I'm guessing he's eligible.

Yep he's eligible. Playing in the KHL doesn't count towards the GP requirement.

25 games OR under. That's one more game. At 26 games the guy is ineligible the next year.

Or six or more games in each of any two preceding seasons.

Also, can't be older than 26.

If the KHL does not count as another "major professional league", then this portion of the rule is meaningless and absurd. I thought it was the #2 pro league in the world. If it isn't "major", then there are no other "major" leagues other than the NHL itself.

    I'd say he isn't eligible.

LW - E. Kane, Drouin, Schenn, Miller, Foligno, Zucker
RW - Wheeler, Stone, Lindholm, Oshie, Tolvanen
D - Karlsson, Carlson, Dumba, Nurse, Ceci, Pionk, Larsson, Montour

It's stupid I agree but I seem to recall reading on this before and they don't count leagues outside North America for some stupid reason

I was totally confused why what you were saying until I read between the line a bit. That's an awful lot of confidence for such a little guy

The "any major professional league" only applies to the WHA, which doesn't exist anymore. That language is obsolete.
