This is tough, I want to say B because holtby gets a boost in system and d core while Gibson should take the reigns from Anderson.

    Wow...

I just barely like the Backstrom side better, though it's really close...

Malkin is an upgrade over Backstrom, but not by that much - I like Kane over Kreider and Holtby over Andersen though. Backstrom isn't as "name brand" as Malkin, but his numbers are always there year in and year out.

I really like the B side here. Backstrom is no slouch, and the other 2 players are also quality.

I really like the B side by a large margin. Backstrom is a very very solid FOW guy and Kane racks up huge SOG and Hits numbers.

OK, so an official offer has been made to me.

    My Malkin/Kreider/Carlson/Fred Andersen FOR

    His Nick Backstrom/EKane/Dougie/Holtby

I feel like this is a great return for what I am giving. But this is a massive, franchise altering deal, so it is obviously a hairy decision.

This hasn't been mentioned yet but I feel it's important:

Whether or not it makes a difference in the responses but I would suggest providing the values for each category as this is H2H fantasy points, not individual categories. Without knowing which categories have a greater/lesser effect on the totals, the less informative advice you may receive. Perhaps provide some fantasy points totals (season/per game) for some of these players to give us an idea of how valuable they are in this format?

Also, as for the benefits of each side, it's all relative to your squad as a whole and how the total points of each would effect your overall production on a weekly basis. I don't think it should be looked at in a vacuum.

I have to go with the Bax side, although Kreider is a multicat beast, Kane is just as valuable in those leagues. Bax and Malkin are both top offensive forwards should both have similar numbers, Malkin takes it by a bit with shots, and pim's.

The clincher is Holtby over Andersen. Proven vs unproven. I see you have already made your decision. I hope my post help to reaffirm your decision. We tend to have doubts about trades we make shortly after we make them.

Its an interesting deal. I prefer side A for the following reasons.

    1. When Malkin is healthy he is going to put up his usual point totals. When hurt you stash him on the IR and hope to get at least a marginal return from a replacement player.

    2. I think Chris Kreider is going to score 30 and put up 100pims next season. He skates like the wind, hits like a truck and has a very fine shot. Just ask the Senators, Habs and Penguins blueline who were all CLEANLY beaten by CK only to have the underpants around his ankles wearing dman reach out with whatever he could find to impede his forward progress resulting in a vicious net crash. This kid is the real deal.

    3. Anderson looks to the inside shot at sharing if not starting most of the game in Anaheim for at least 2 seasons. Gibson is solid but only has 46 total AHL games experience. His contract conveniently runs out the same season Andersen goes RFA.

Consider Sim Hockey because guys who play shutdown minutes, deflect shots and clear creases build championships. Yet in fantasy they litter the unwanted UFA lists.

Keep 18 in 12 teams means 216 players are on a GMs roster. Malkin is almost a guarantee to get hurt for at least 10 games, so if you have the IR spot, can you grab the 217th best player and still be productive? If you have had history of not doing well because Malkin is out and your teams depth is killing you (doesn’t quite look that way with your team) Backstrom is such a rock for a team. Always plays, no history of injuries, plays with the best sniper in the league (who you have), and has a young player in Kuzy coming up who will either play 2nd liner center (to remove pressure off of Bax), or play LW on the top line.

The negatives though is loading up on one teams stars (Ovi and Bax), no longer having Multi-position Malkin (FW from a winger), and the obvious lower ceiling of Backstrom. However, I think Ovi and Backstrom will be ridiculous in H2H setup (will get you the wins in bunches), FW can be easily replaced (vermette), and if you can stomach Backstroms 75-85pt range compared to Malkins 60-100pt range then that’s good.

Dougie Hamilton will also step in and replace Chara in the next couple of yrs. E. Kane will get traded, and he will do better on another team (play with a chip on his shoulder) Holtby will do better stats wise with Trotz at the helm and Orpik and Niskenen in front of him. Also with Carlson he may be the odd man out in Washington now.

I like the Backstrom side by a slight margin. I think the people who like the Malkin side are the “go big or go home” kind of GMs.

    Very even trade.

I think Backstrom and EKane on the same team is a really, really solid tandem, because they are kind of like Jack Sprat and his wife. Where Backstrom sucks [SOG/HIT/PIM] EKane is a total stud. Where EKane sucks [primarily PPP, fewer A], Backstrom is the man. I think Backstrom was near top of league in PPP.

What might be concerning is that people are assuming that Fred Andersen will eventually be replaced by Gibson. You have to think the jury is still out on that situation, both short and long term. A lot of it will come down to actual performance, in games we haven't seen yet.

I think EKane is the X Factor because he has yet to hit that next level. I think he will eventually be even better, but there's no guarantee.

If I were you, I would ask for a bit more, just so you are comfortable with the deal. Does he have a better option than Hamilton or Holtby? Maybe you can slide the trade a bit more in your favor, so you can be comfortable with the outcome. After all, you don't HAVE to make the trade. If he doesn't budge, you haven't lost anything.
