Default Outlook on Jaskin & Hertl

Jaskin - on my roster and thinking about trading him to one of the St Louis homers in my league. The Stastny signing pushes him back, but he doesn't have much to prove in the AHL now, so maybe 3rd line?

Hertl - considering going after him

What's their outlook for this year? Playing time, PP time, line assignment, value relative to other prospects, etc. Any input you can give would be welcome.

The Stastny signing doesnt really affect Jaskin. Jaskin is a winger. That being said, there isn't a spot for him in the top 6 right now but I still preach patience with him. He is obviously their top call up from the AHL if he doesnt make the team this year. He is still their top prospect in the system and worth being patient with.

Hertl is certainly worth going after. He is top 6 material and if he can stay healthy I can see him putting up 50-55 pts.

Jaskin has a cup competing roster in front of him. Hertl may see Jumbo go which would be guaranteed top 6 and not Saad top 6. He did tweak his knee today and may not participate in tomorrow's rookie camp scrimmage. I think it's probably a little sore or he doesn't want to play in a rookie scrimmage.

Agreed with the consensus here. Hertl is better in the short term. Jaskin could still be solid but not sure if he tops out better than Hertl. With Jaskin it could be 3+ years (if even that) to break into that top 6

Another vote for Hertl - San Jose's prospect pool is more of a prospect puddle - Jaskin has to compete with Rattie, Lehtera, Fabbri, and that's just for a bottom six assignment.

Hertl is a MUCH better prospect... This one isn't even close. Have you seen Jaskin skate?

Well, it wasn't meant to be a "who is better" question, it's more what to do with Jaskin. His value will be inordinately high because the homers want him. Good trade chip. Hertl is one of only a few prospects I could target, but I really feel that with a couple higher end d-men, I could make a run at the title. Winning the Cup is worth about $1300.

I think at their potential peaks, both of these guys could be 50+ point players. I do believe that Hertl has the better situation, and is the guy to target now.
