Default Would you trade this package for Claude Giroux?

Hey there, keeper league, we protect 10 players with a possibility of 5 players in our farm (60 games or less). G=1, A=1. Annual salaries (no cap hit).

What do you think of this offer for Claude Giroux who is paid 10M$ this season?

    -Vladimir Tarasenko-F
    -Mikhail Grigorenko-F (Farm eligible)
    -Shea Theodore-D (Farm eligible)
    -1st Rounder 2016 (Top-10)

    Vs.

    -Claude Giroux-F
    -6th Rounder 2016 (+/- 175th overall)

    Thanks!
Keeper Pool. Points only. Salary Cap 85M$ (yearly salary, not cap hit). 28 GM League.

I will say yes but I paused a little bit when you said he cost $10M of your $75M cap. What are the other cap hits of comparable players?

So are you offering this for Giroux hoping he will say yes or was this an offer to you?

If the salaries work, I'd take the Giroux side quite easily.

Seems like a cheap price to pay for Giroux, until you consider the cap hit. After looking at the rosters I think you have a good chance to win and have some good young players on cheap cap hits. I would make this trade.

I would take Giroux....more about your league would be helpful also...how many players do you play each week...you keep 10 but if you only roster 15 guys then yes make the deal....if you roster 22 then that's a lot to spend on one player

We do not make daily lineups. We protect 10 players and draft 10 more for a total of 20. Out of this 20, the top 9F, 3D and 1G are counted towards the team totals.

Hard to peg a player's value in cap leagues.

    $75m for 13 players (9F/3D/1G).

    I'd probably allocate about $70m towards 7F/2D/1G, 10 players.
    Then I'd use $5m to scrap together my last 2F & D.

    That's $7m per player.
    So, I'd offset a $10m Giroux with a $4m F or D.
    Not incredibly difficult.

I use a HIGH-LOW theory (if I can) in cap pools.
You maximize your stats per dollar by streaming in a low-priced player emerging.
And you maximize your total stats by supplementing them with high-priced skaters that give guaranteed top production.

I'd definitely take Giroux here, and I don't think you are giving up too much.
If those prospects pan out... they are going to get PAID big dollars, especially with a rising cap.

I'm a big fan of veterans in most pool formats.
There'll be lots of surprise kids every year emerging.
Pick & choose them off the waiver wire instead of holding them and hoping.
Better strategy, IMO (in shallower depth pools).

Actually, we have to keep a 20-player roster, hence the 10M$ hit being harder to manage.

I think my young and veteran mix makes me able to take it but it gives me less room to deal afterwards, that's for sure.
I'm gunning for the 1st place this year so that's why I'm thinking sacrificing Tarasenko (who I absolutely love) and some good prospects for a superstar.

I wouldn't have problem having a star forward with a big cap hit on my team.

A $10mill of your $75mill? No thanks...that's too much IMO. I'd need a 95pt+ player to justify 13% of my budget.

it seems like a good trade but the cap hit might be a bit high? Do you have any comparable numbers you can provide for players at the same fantasy value?

I'd take Giroux as well if you are in 'win now' mode. Just a matter of getting 'value' from your bottom tier of players. $75M for a 20+ team dynasty league is should be plenty of money to spread around. Mind you your roster size is small at only 13 per team.

You need to make a spreadsheet and figure out $/per point. Should be able to find some value and perhaps set up some trades where a GM doing less work doesn't see.

I would undoubtedly make this deal if I was getting Giroux.. Yes he has a huge cap hit, but you could definitely trade him for something good aswell if you wanted..
