In this case, I doubt an arbitrator will give him the money he would get via negotiating. I don't think I'd have done that if I were PK. He was really holding the hammer

perhaps the right move by PK, worst case scenario he gets a 2-year deal and is a UFA in 2 years. for all we know that might be what he wants to do.

If anything this should show a sign to Montreal that he is loyal to them and isn't interested in playing elsewhere. (Offer sheet now impossible)

Hopefully it means a good pay check

I'm with dobber as I think this limits what he would have gotten, but means he'll get what he really wants in a couple more years, most likely.

I think PK now only wants a smaller term deal. Knowing where the cap is going. If he signs a 4 year 6.5 mill contract. After that he will be in line for a 10+ mill a year deal easily.

Also in agreement. Arbitrator probably award him between 6.5-7m/year. If he wanted a short term deal, I think he still gets a two year 8m/year deal if he wants and then goes to UFA.

I don't see how this is a win, unless he gets an offer sheet.

I disagree with dobber on this one I think PK is deferring the big payoff now in order to retain complete control of his destiny. He'll be awarded handily by the arbitrator and on the other side he can write his own check anywhere he wants to play, smart move on his part.

There is no guarantee that he will have more control in the future than he does this year. The past two seasons have seen a strong playoff run and a Norris, not sure if he'll even win another Norris. Every player is one injury away from their career changing, and most would cash in now if they were in PK's situation.
