Default What does the future hold for Pekke Rinne??

I'm considering making an effort to land Rinne. However, like everyone else I would think, the past year obviously is of concern and there is some risk. The question is, how much risk. I note Dobber has Rinne currently ranked tier 2 but sitting 23rd. So the question is this; can Rinne regain a Tier 1 Ranking? If not, do you consider Rinne a strong, medium or weak Tier 2? Or, do the wheels come off and Rinne slips to Tier 3? I appreciate the injury risk, but for the purposes of this thread, lets assume Rinne stays healthy. So, based on a healthy Rinne and the current team the Preds will ice, what can we expect from Pekka? If you want to through out some projected numbers, well that would be even better. Thanks for your help in advance guys!!

I'd peg him as being a perennial 5th - 15th overall finisher. He has the talent, and he'll get the starts. I'd say a high tier 2 option.

If I had to make a guess for next year:
    2.45 GAA - 2.55 GAA
    .915 - .917 Save %
    31 - 34 wins.

Not a bold prediction by any means, but it's because I do think he will fit somewhere around that. He'll bounce back from his past 2 years.

    GAA probably in the 2.40s
SV% probably in the mid .9teens
    Shutouts probably about 5-6

Wins is the tough one to project obviously, i feel like i would go conservative and start at 25 just to be safe

I think he stays in tier 2 as a strong play. The preds aren't a strong playoff team like they used to be. I think he's in line for 2.20-2.25 GAA with a .915-.920% through in 25 wins.

For me Rinne is a buy low right now... Playing behind a Laviolette team may see him consolidate himself as a solid tier 2 goalie though (much the way Vokoun became when he left Nashville) I think he is a nice back up option

Assuming he's healthy - which all indications say he is...
He'll be right back in the top tier, where he belongs, before the end of the season.
Currently ranking him at #23 is a joke...

With goalies you have to focus on raw talent and ignore the occasional off year. Lundqvist had a poor year this season but you wouldn't try to argue that he's crap now would you? Rinne is a top 10 goalie period, treat him as such or you'll be disappointed

If you're ignoring the injury risk, then yes Rinne is a top 10 goalie I would think. If healthy, he'll start 65+ games, get 30+ wins with good peripherals and he's always good for shutouts. Regardless how good the Preds are, Rinne gets a ton of starts normally and they'll be good enough for him to hit 30 wins.

But I just don't know if you can totally ignore the injury risk. Hips are a pretty important part of a goalie's body....lots of goalies never return to their former level after hip issues. So I don't know, I'd just be cautious with Rinne. Would I draft him as a top 10 goalie? Probably not. Does he have the ability to be one? Yes, definitely.

Check out what Rinne did at the worlds this year. He's back and yet probably as cheap as he is going to be in a trade for the foreseeable future.

Hé will be fine. He is not the first player with an extended injury. Also look at his D in front of him. I wont sell low on him.

Yes, his performance at the Worlds is very encouraging. It shows that he found his groove after a few weeks of getting back to form.
Nashville will be in a very tough division again though, so I believe his numbers will put him around the top 10 goalies. 30 wins is within reach for sure.
Let's hope he stays healthy now.

Just food for thought guys, but Hiller and Rinne are only 8 months apart in age......they both excel in international competition that everyone gets excited over......Rinne career save percentage 918 Hillers 916......last season Nashville won 3 more games than Calgary.....Nashville lost one of the games best coaches while Calgary upgraded its goaltending obviously.......Nashville plays in a MUCH tougher division......oh yeah and we live in reality so there is no reason to ignore Rinne injury history. Anyway it's seems the consensus is Rinne is dead lock top ten? Well where do you put Hiller then?

Here's 14 goalies easily better to own than Rinne

    King Hank
    Quick

Rinne is still an elite goalie.
Comparing him to Hiller is a stretch, especially Hiller in Calgary. What Hiller did he did on the Ducks, a solid team and in the West. Yes, Nashville only won 3 more games than Calgary but they didn't have Rinne for most of it. He might take a bit of a hit losing Mitch Korn but it's not like he's a young goalie trying to find his game. The injury should scare anybody but his play in the WC should calm some of the fears. I'd still take him over half of STLBlues lists of goalies.
