Niskanen to Detroit is a very real possibility.
Kronwall is a left-handed shot and DET could really use another RH stick on their blueline, especially a RH that could play the PP.
Perfect fit.
I'm not sure how much Team Canada banked on Babcock's input... but they were absolutely adamant about going with 4 LH/ 4 RH for balance.
The Wings could use similar balance stickside on their back-end.

It's going to be Boyle or Niskanen in Detroit. You can pretty much lock that in. History tells us that it'll probably be Boyle just because they have excellent retirement facilities. I think both have the potential to be the most outrageous signings of the day.
Canīt decide if i am pumped or scared of today since i know Tallon will spend a boatload of Money as all tweets confirm. I just donīt know if its on the right target. I gladly overpay for the Vaneks of this world but please donīt add to Torontos already suicidal offer to Dave Bolland Tallon please!

I'd really love to see Stastny in an Oilers jersey. I don't particularly care the cost. If you hit free agency you are bound to overpay but every good contender has hit free agency once. The key is locking up the right guy. I think Stastny fits the bill.
I remember last year around this time when I thought that Stephen Weiss was the best signing of UFA day.
This is gonna be fun.

Assuming NY retains Brassard, the Rangers still need another pivot to take Brad Richards minutes. But with only 11 players under contract its going to be tough to ice a full roster given the available cap space.
Stralman is gone or takes much less money to stay and play in front of countryman Henrik Lundqvist
Brian Boyle is gone
Pouliot is gone
Dorsett is already gone
Hearing Slats is working on keeping John Moore, Zuc and the aforementioned Brassard not to mention Chris Kreider. Does Dolan open the checkbook as well as a long term offer sheet to arguably the best Rangers forward in a generation ?
I think we might see Staal either extended without a significant pay raise or gone as well
Many a player or agent might mention NYR as a destination but that just ain't gonna happen with all the players who need to be signed.
Consider Sim Hockey because guys who play shutdown minutes, deflect shots and clear creases build championships. Yet in fantasy they litter the unwanted UFA lists.
I am interested to see what outrageous contracts Buffalo and Florida give out to reach the cap floor. Could easily see Florida overpaying for someone like Bolland because they have to spend. Plus the Tallon ties are there. 5 or 6 years 5-6 a year.

You are not alone.
I remember remarking that Weiss was the first solid North American center that the Wings had rostered since... Steve Yzerman.
I had a bunch of offers for Weiss in my cap league and declined them all based on the assumption that he'd be a solid producer per dollar at his $4.9m salary.
Wrong-O!
There could be some interesting trades today too. I've been hearing Lupul could be on the move today.
As far as FA go, I am curious to see who the Oilers can lure at 2C. Grabovski would be a great fit.
Mark Fayne is another FA I hope the Oilers can nail down. Not a sexy name but steady Eddy who will offer some nice stability to their back end.

I'm hearing Stars are very serious about trying to get Jason Spezza today.
I'm interested to see where & how much two players sign for:
1. Nikolai Kulemin
2. Dany Heatley
Side story: In my cap league (which includes Dobber forum members: horrorfan, axeman, mounD, Rrabbit), we open free agency at 12:01am on July 1st.
So about five of us stayed up to midnight last night, created our player claim threads and pushed "Enter" at 12:01am.
It's funny seeing five new threads magically appear and people losing out on a claim by seconds.
mounD just missed his claim for Salomaki.
I just missed my claim for Kulemin.
I was so annoyed that I decided to just sign up a player just because I stayed up.
So I signed... Dany Heatley!!! (yuck)
Here's hoping for a nice low contract amount and a revival.
