Not sure why they wouldn't hold off on this guy until their next pick.. I heard they were worried about another team grabbing him first, but I honestly didn't see that happening.. I sure hope this guy turns into a great player..

This is exactly the type of guy the Spurs would draft. That's not an excuse to take him in and of itself but it's an excuse to take him when they did. They'd also reached a point in the draft where every pick was very much a shot in the dark so they went high upside. I mean, who would you have preferred? There's no one jumping out at me.

That is exactly how my buddy answered the same question when I asked him what he thought. He is a huge basketball fan, played in university, and until recently was coaching at the university level. So his opinion on all things basketball is much more valuable than my own opinion is on similar matters. Would have been nice to get a Canadian kid on the roster but when the best of them were already gone, then the Raptors did what they had to do.

F: J. Robertson, J. Hughes, Tavares, Lafreniere, Cozens, Newhook, Teravainen, Domi, R. Strome, Laine, Rossi, Raymond, Holtz, Perfetti
    D: Bouchard, McAvoy, Morrissey, Heiskanen
    G: Vasilevskiy

Agree with the last two posts...but Ive also read that the Raps had heard other teams would have grabbed this guy before their next pick.

Hope it turns out well for them.

I've heard some arguments for Shabazz Napier at that pick or trading down to a team that wanted Napier but to me that's just parroting what Jalen Rose and Bill Simmons had to say on the matter during the live broadcast. I love those two and respect the hell out of their opinion but I just don't think Shabazz is SOOOOOO good that you have to take him there.

For those who watched the draft, how funny was the assessment of Caboclo as being two years away from being two years away. Hilarious!

Simmons is awful. Why respect his opinion? Made a fool out of himself.

I think he's hilarious and he's absolutely an authority on basketball history. Player assessments, less so.

Given their stellar track record drafting international players, why the hell not? Look at how our high-ranking international picks like Bargnani and Valanciunas have blossomed. Clearly they've got an inside edge when it comes to assessing these talents.

JV is coming along pretty nicely for a big man actually... But who is this Bargnani you speak of?

If you are calling Bargnani a success story, blech.
