It would be a REGULAR buyout.

Very costly move. Three years remaining of a backloaded contract and it would come with cap penalty. Jeesh.

They would be smart to. The guy does not understand what to do when he doesn't have the puck.

A couple of teams looking for a #2 centre could actually use Ribeiro.

Ribeiro: The cost of a regular buyout would be about $1.94M per year for next 6 years. $11.66M in total to not play, $17.5M in total to play

So another #2 centre is on the market, where does Ribeiro end up? He may seem like a cheaper option as compared to other guys who are available.

Wow, a cash strapped team makes a regular buyout on a guy who had a bad year, was a little overpaid but still has some game left? It was a regular buyout so no time crunch, I would have given him another full season.

Guy was one year into a four-year deal. Man, did he fall out of favour fast.

It probably doesn't help that he can't win a faceoff. Just 43.3 per cent this year.

Maloney said this move was purely about behavioral issues and not cost-saving move. Ribeiro has been seeking help this summer, Maloney said.

Maloney: "Mike had some real behavioral issues we felt we could not tolerate going forward."

Maloney said this decision doesn't necessarily make #Coyotes better team next season but better organization in long run.

#Coyotes weren't naive when they acquired Ribeiro last summer, but Maloney thought they could manage. Called it "mistake" now.

And to be clear, this is not a compliance buyout. Ribeiro will get paid over next six years just under $2 million.

I assume PHX tried to trade him away? Even for a bag of pucks? That contract can't so bad for a 2C that some team wouldn't be interested?
Ribs will be VERY motivated to resign with another team and prove he can still put up decent numbers next season.

Huh. Was this known before that Ribs was having issues affecting the team? First time I heard of it.

Interesting to hear. This was the first I'd ever heard o Riberio being a locker room issue or having "behavioral problems". Really intrigued by the line "Ribeiro has been seeking help this summer, Maloney said" When I hear those words the first thing that pops into my head is a drug problem... will be interesting to see if anything more leaks out over the summer.
