Default The Ryan Kesler Trade - My Take

Kesler needed a change in scenery more than anyone, and this is one of the best fits for him. My take:

Kesler is going to have to get PP1 time to have solid fantasy value.
Last year, for Anaheim, it was primarily Bonino (LH) getting PP1 time with Getzlaf (RH) and Perry (RH).
Typically, I believe they roll out 3F/2D on their PP.
Now... stickside may not seem like a major consideration (and it's not)... but Kesler is a RH shot... and it is possible to have too many same-side-sticks on an umbrella.

I'm not really too high on the wingers in Anaheim.
PP2 & ES2 time for Kesler ain't going to result in much... point-wise.

Same thing on the new VAN PP1.
Do they go with Sedin (LH), Sedin (LH)... and Bonino (LH)???

re: Kesler. I think he'll (obviously) be better than his 43pt season... but I don't see him about 60pts. I'll say 55pts.
re: Bonino. I think it'll be tough to repeat his 20 PPP... and I see him more around 45pts.

Great work getting that up so fast!

You should have added Sami Vatanen as someone who benefits from this. One less D to compete with for ice-time.

Slightly off topic, but does Kesler in Anaheim help or hurt Jacob Silfverberg's fantasy value? I think it means Silfverberg's centre is either Kesler or Getzlaf, but my buddy says Silfverberg will end up on the third line. Thoughts?

I was just talking about this with a buddy of mine, and the conclusion we came to was that Anaheim's top6 should be (just our opinion): Maroon-Getz-Perry / Silfverberg-Kesler-Palmieri. Obviously this is just an educated guess, but this gives their top6 a good balance, with some grit and two-way players mixed with scorers. Also, some form of DSP-Perrault-Beleskey could be a VERY quality third line. Again, just a guess here (SteelCity14 and myself), but it looks good to me. And for the record, the Maroon winger spot will be interchangeable; Beleskey/Silfv, etc. could spend some time there.

EDIT: mucho credit to forum member, SteelCity14, for his opinions here. He came up with these line combos originally.

Talk about a solid top 6, even top 9. They'll have one of the better 3rd lines in the league IMO. VERY solid depth for the Ducks.

They seem like a pretty good contender now. They juste need to add a veteran goalie to be there #1 and they have a great chance...

I think Anaheim would prefer to have Getzlaf on the point on the PP. I think the reason they have had him as a forward is because of their poor depth at center.

Horvat is another player this helps, by virtue of there being more minutes to go around the Canucks will be more comfortable starting him in a third-line role.
It will hurt Corrado, since Sbisa crowds him off the blue-line, barring another trade.

I think how this trade plays out for Maroon, Palmieiri, Beleskey, Silfverberg and even Etem will be interesting to watch. There are a number of solid contenders for top 6 minutes as you've outlined above, that said, I'd fill Silfverbergs name in with pencil for now instead of pen.

Why on earth would Kesler not be PP1 if Bonino was just there? In fact, his PP1 mates just improved (Getz/Perry>Sedins)
