The 3 CHL (WHL, OHL, QMJHL) leagues are also considered professional leagues as the players get paid to play so not playing in a major professional league likely no longer applies.

I think the tougher question in this is who will be the Palat and Johnson of next year? The guys who come seemingly out of nowhere and put their name in competition with the top dogs.

Some good picks in here. I like the "dark horse" picks of Lazar and Wennberg, though I don't really see Wennberg being an NHL regular as early as next season. Lazar definitely has a shot, though. Drouin and Gibson are certainly some of the sexier picks for next year's Calder. I'd say that my realistic pick is Drouin, sleeper pick is Nick Ritchie.

What about Bo Horvat who only just was cut from the Vancouver Canucks before the start of last season? I know that if he is given the chance to play next year in the NHL, he better come out flying if he wants the Vancouver fans to forget about Corey Schneider.

If I was going to make money on this prediction then I definitely would have selected Drouin or Kuznetsov.. I also was thinking Domi, Lazar, or Horvat.. So I just threw out a name nobody mentioned, and that's how I picked Wennberg.. I also agree he may not be a regular, but worth the risk!!

Kuznetsov or Drouin would be my gut feeling. A bit surprised nobody has mentioned Ekblad. He's likely to be drafted by Florida which will hurt his chances but I think he'll be in the conversation if he plays in the NHL next year like many are saying.
