Default Neal's trade talk heating up

    Per Dreger on Twitter:

Names are also being thrown at Pens gm, Jim Rutherford for James Neal. What's the going rate for a 30-40 goal scorer? Tough trade to make.

Neal's got a pretty nice contract.
I doubt PIT will get a 1-for-1 return on him with a more attractive salary.
Likely PIT would have to get two pieces.

But I did read on EF's 30thoughts that Letang trade talks are dead.
GMs love to put their early marks on their teams and Neal is really the only piece with attractive value to other GMs.

    Best trade I could propose:
to PIT: Kesler + veteran D
to VAN: James Neal + young D
PIT would shift Malkin to wing.

Would Neal's points value drop with such a trade in Van? Is he a 80 pts guy without Geno?

I'd say his point total would drop in VAN unless he finds himself next to the Sedins, then I think he'll be closer to what he has done in PIT. (I'm unsure of which wing he plays and which Daniel plays...) There are very few better places to be in the NHL than next to Malkin.

Sounds more like they are getting offers, not so much shopping him. As Pengwin stated, they likely won't get fair value, and unless they're bringing in more wingers, they are likely taking a step back.

Oh man don't trade him. He has a great life right now playing next to malkin and on the pitt powerplay. I can't really think of another place he could go and maintain the same value.

Rutherford and the Ownership group are too busy pooching their Head Coaching search to be worried about trading away James Neal.

What they should really do is trade Neal AND Malkin somewhere so they can run wild ha.

Considering where they are on their depth chart and hopefuls, Bylsma really isn't looking that bad again.

They may be trading for a 30-40 goal scorer right now, but will he be that for the new team aswell??

On another team, I think he's a 30G guy. I'd say you're looking at 65 pts sans Malkin or Crosby. 80 pts will be tough to hit again. I don't know what the impetus is to move him right now, but in deals like this, the sending team seldom wins. You'll never get value when people smell you're looking to deal a player of that stature.

    Ditto.

    Pitts is on Kesler's list.
I could see this happening if Benning can pry away the #1 from FLA.
He could draft Reinhart - who could center Neal.
