Default Is Hartnell trade to make room for top line winger?

Is Philly making room for a potential trade.

I hear that Matt Read is ready to step up into the top line spot, but I'm skeptical

Maybe Hextall is looking for a winger to play with Giroux and Voracek.

    Anybody see a possible fit?

The dreamer in me hopes its another big body power forward.

    Maybe Evander Kane?

Big body power forward? Hmmmm didn't they just lock up B Schenn for two years? I like Schenn on that top line? What do you guys think? I can't see them breaking up Couturier and Read shut down line.

I cant see them breaking up the Simmonds/Schenn duo.

    Pretty solid second line.

Maybe you're right. Schenn is a beast.

Seems like a second liner to me though

I think Philly is looking for a top tier winger for that top line.

If they break up second line, I think Simmonds would be a better fit on line #1

I can go with that for sure. So do you think Umberger plays with S Couturier on shut down line?

I think he would fit there.

They say he's a speedy guy and a useful all around player.

    Makes sense to me.

If Philly wants to add another power forward, then they have to trim more payroll.. I'd think that Schenn gets that 1st line role and a kid like Laughton makes the jump up to 4th line centre..

Unless they trade away Lecavalier without taking on a salary in return (which I can't see happening) Hextall can't really afford to bring in a big ticket winger. I think you're going to see Read/Raffl/Schenn/Umberger and possibly Akeson and/or McGinn all get a chance alongside Giroux/Voracek to see if they catch lightning in a bottle.

I dunno, $9.1M on two third line players seems pretty crazy, lol.

EDIT: The more I think about it the more I think Lecavalier will get traded, and that Giroux/Schenn/Couturier will be your top three centers. If Laughton is on the team next year wouldn't it make more sense to have the rookie on the wing instead of Schenn?

I agree 100%, but it's how things tend to work. That's why I think the first person to get a crack at playing alongside Giroux/Voracek is probably Umberger. I don't think it will last, but I'm sure he'll get first crack. That said, as long as Lecavalier/Umberger get some time on the PP and the PK respectively I guess it's not as big a deal. Of course I just don't see how Lecavalier fits into this team at all, so who knows? If I had to hazard a guess, I'd think it the lines will look something like this:

    Read/Giroux/Voracek
    Raffl/Schenn/Simmonds
    Umberger/Couturier/Akeson
    Rinaldo/Lecavalier/Laughton

Like I said, I don't see how Lecavalier fits in here at all, since Lecavalier/Schenn/Simmonds didn't really work too well last year, and he doesn't really seem like a fit on a line with Couturier and Umberger.

They gotta get someone to take Lecavalier off their hands to open up cap space, gonna be hard to do.

I think their best bet will be something similar to the Hartnell trade, where they take a lesser player with a shorter term in order to get rid of the contract. Just to pull something out of my ass as an example, Lecavalier for Gaustad (he's got a cap hit of $4M, right?) and a mid round pick. That doesn't get them any more cap space to re-sign Akeson/McGinn and get a backup goalie though.
