It will be considering that buyout dollars are counted as hockey related revenue (somewhat of a freebie for the owners) and this is the last chance.

Interestingly enough, a player must clear unconditional waivers before a buyout can occur unless that player has a NMC - then the player can opt for buyout and become a UFA.

My vote is on Leino......I knew the instant he signed that deal that he'd eventually get bought out. After another Leino-like campaign, he'll be one of the first to go, if not the first IMO.

Yep, there was a rumor (hopefully it stays that way too).

I dont see many teams trading for that contract though.

Columbus could retain some of the salary to get him traded. I'm sure Umberger would have value if the new team is only on hook for around $3 to $3.5 million per season. And it would also save money for Columbus (depending on who they'd have to take in return) compared to buying him out. Not like that $1 million or so on cap for the next three years would be killer for Columbus compared to actually saving some more cash.

Basically I'm sure there's a Tuomo Ruutu type of deal to be had instead of having to buy him out.

Quite possible it could happen that way. He does have some value, just not for the price he is making right now.
