Ick. They're going to be losing a ppg player. They'd better be smart about this, or they're going to be set back for quite some time. Not to mention Ryan going to free agency perhaps next year. IF I'm moving Spezza, it's going to be for a very good player in return, not marginal parts that could be .55ppg-.60ppg players. Hope Murray is kicking tires here, and lots of them....
Hockey Pools? Too many to mention. Points only, salary cap and dynasty.

I agree. Berglund is a poor man's Jordan Staal. Promise of 60+. Realistic is in the 50s. I would not want him back as part of the deal. If Sens fans are tired of Spezza's commitment to the game, wait til they get a hold of Berglund's. Doesn't exactly exude back check.... or hard check...

Not sure what you're expecting, you're talking about a guy with one year left on his deal, injury prone, and past his peak. A guy who is not on the same page as the head coach, a guy who took the captaincy but has hurt feeling when he feels the heat. You're also not losing a ppg player as it's doubtful he ever does that again with his injury history. So that argument really needs to stop being made.

They have to move him. Just take the best offer. As I've said I think they improve by getting rid of him immediately regardless of the return. They won't be set back as he would've left next year anyway and they've done well when he isn't playing. Look at what Boston I got for a Joe Thornton. Didn't matter in the long run.

There is little chance you get a very good, impact player in return for spezza alone. I can see them adding Methot or something in a package though.

A 50 point c like Berglund who plays better defensively is exactly what should be expected. Look what bobby ryan got, a fringe nhl player, prospect, and first. Berglund, Rattie, 1st is similar and that's with a guy with one year left on his deal.

imo they make the playoffs if spezza was injured the whole year this year.

If they get Berglund, a 1st, and a prospect I would call that par for the course.

The player has openly stated he wants out. (Or at least the gm has stated this).

And from Ottawa's side they don't just get this. They gain 3.75 million in cap space next season. That's a lot for a budget team like Ottawa. Plus they gain a player that is still an RFA after seasons end.

Ottawa has their number 1 centre in Turris. They need Berglund to be their number 2. Which he is more than capable IMO.

This could be a great move for Berglund too. He showed some pretty good offensive skills at the start of his pro career (Allsvenskan included) so playing in a more open system could help him break out. That and getting solid 2nd line minutes + good PP time.

I wonder if Ottawa could pry Jordan Schmatlz away as the prospect. IMO Berglund, Schmaltz + 1st would be way better than Berglund, Rattie + 1st.
