Default Prospect promotion rules for league in sig - Advice

Just finished the first season for the league in my sig. Current rules state that if a prospect has played 25+ games over the past two seasons (total, not 25 each season) then they must either be promoted to the roster or released the following season. Owners can hold a maximum of 8 prospects at a time.

I'm considering putting it to the league that we could/should raise the number of games to 50, or maybe 100. The main reason being that with only 10 keepers, I worry that promoted prospects won't carry enough value to warrant keeping. I also worry that after only 25+ games, a lot of the prospects won't even warrant promoting. This kind of makes the existence of prospects rather futile.

So... thoughts? Is raising the number of games to 50 or 100 a worthwhile idea? Which do you prefer? What are some pros and cons?

In a keep ten, 25+ is too few games. I think 50 or even 75 is more appropriate. I'd suggest the rule change.
I can't imagine anyone arguing against it.

25 games is nowhere near enough. A lot of prospects gets cups of coffee that add up to over 25 games, without cracking the roster full-time. 50-100 is where the GP limit for prospects needs to be.

    Completely agree here.

FWIW though, my league uses 92 GP for skaters and 60 GP for goalies

A 25 game played limit does seem to negate any rationale for having a prospect system with your settings.

The most logical thing to do, IMO, would be to increase that limit or eliminate the prospect spots.

I'd suggest at least 100 GP, so that a player could get one full season under the belt before having to be moved up. I'd also cut the number of games in half for goalies....100 GP for a goalie, especially a back up, could keep them prospect eligible for eons.

Good idea we use is 80 games for F & D and 40 games for goalies. This way prospects have basically 1 full season to develop. Lots of prospects hit 25 games (i.e. injury call up) then disappear for a few years of seasoning in AHL. 80 games gives you a year basically to evaluate.

In our keeper league we keep 10 (out of 20) and we can have a maximum oof 5 prospects in the farm.

Our cutoff for prospects is 60 career NHL games at any given time.

    I think it is perfect.
