Much more important to have one of those guys than it is to have Boyle. The Isles don't have trouble scoring goals, it's keeping them out that is the problem. That, and getting consistent effort from everyone. Don't see how Boyle helps with either of those big issues.

Also, Visnovsky is a better defenceman than Boyle. Not sure where the buy-out talk comes from???

Isles depth chart (top 6) =

    Travis Hamonic /Calvin De Haan
    Lubomir Visnovsky
    Dan Boyle
    Thomas Hickey

Halak is the reason they will keep their GA down as he is a significant upgrade in net....

Halak will help - but Hasek wouldn't have made the Isles respectable last year.

vis signed a 2 year deal so he has 1 year left .

he may not be healthy for next season (concussion) so this could actually be an attempt at replacing him with Boyle .

I think we would have to agree to disagree... I think a full year of Tavares, Vanek staying past the deadline (which he would have if they were pushing) and Halak in net and Isles would have been in the play offs

You didn't watch the Isles then. They were out of the playoffs before Christmas, long before Tavares went down. Vanek didn't bring much - some pretty plays with JT, but he is not a difference maker. And it wouldn't have mattered who was in net because the team defense was the worst in the league due to poor coaching and no player accountability.

I'm not disputing they were out before christmas... I just think with a goalie posting a .910 or better would have kept them competing

I think Boyle is still good defensively too. He's been smarter about how he plays his positioning to counter his slower foot speed that comes with age. So I think he would be a good 2 year signing for NYI. I'd love to see him there.

I think for sure he signs in Long Island. He had a nmc. So unless he just wants to **** with New York and give the sharks a pick, he likely has interest going there

i thought his NMC expired after the end of the season? sharks aren't trading boyle to NYI...they are trading his negotiating rights. at least that's how i interpreted it, could be wrong though.

I always figured that since "NMC" kick in on July 1st that they would only end on June 30. But I'll admit that is just an assumption

He's technically under contract and not a FA until July 1. I think that the NMC holds until that date.

Why wouldn't Boyle said "Sure, trade me to NYI. Lets see what they have to offer."

I don't see this happening, unless it's all about cash and contract term.

My thoughts are Boyle wants to join a contender if he can.
