Quality QBs are so hard to find in the NFL that when you have a good one you need to pay insane amounts of money to keep him. Just look at Flacco's deal.

After reading more about his contract, it's not the mammoth people originally thought. The 9ers are in a position where, if they feel, they can cut him as soon as next year. So if he turns into a pumpkin, the 9ers aren't stuck with him or paying his contract. If Kapernicks ends up winning them a SB and he's a top 10 qb for the next 7seasons, SF got a bargain because qb contracts are just going to get crazy in the next couple of seasons.

I'm sure they'd rather have Flacco than be in the kind of situation that Minnesota, Jacksonville, and Cleveland have been if for so long.
