Default Rogers announces their hockey commentators for the season

I love seeing Paul Romanuks name there.

    http://www.cbc.ca/sports/hockey/nhl/...crew-1.2662962

Jim Hughson, Dave Randorf, Paul Romanuk and Bob Cole have been revealed as the Rogers play-by-play team for the 2014-15 NHL season.

Rogers made the announcement Tuesday as it unveiled its fall schedule.

Gemini Award winner Hughson will be the lead commentator when the puck drops Oct. 8.

Randorf has been the full-time regional voice of the Montreal Canadiens for the last four seasons

Romanuk is also a former voice of the Habs and has called several world junior championships.

Cole is known to fans for his longtime presence on CBC's Hockey Night in Canada, which he joined in 1973.

It was announced Sunday that Cole would continue calling games for at least one more season.

In November, Rogers secured a blockbuster $5.2-billion deal for NHL rights.

    ok, not a BAD list..

i haven't heard Romanuks game in a while, should be good.

Randorf does a decent job at the WJC games, hes better than what SN has now for sure...

Bob Cole is an icon and deserves the nod, and for one more year I can take it, although I do think he has the best commentator voice, but the play by play work is slipping noticeably.

Jim Hughson is a gem, always liked this guy.

I was really hoping that Chris Cuthbert woulda made a move though...

Yeh, he moved to Great Britain to follow his wife. Apparently she has some big job with a massive company over there (the Co name eludes me at this time) so she makes big bucks. He picked up games like the World Championships, Spengler Cup, etc. I am not sure if he was working regularly over there or not. Either way, glad to see him back in the North America game.

Good commentators and we don't have to listen to those stuffed suits on TSN anymore, that's a win-win

This is actually the HNIC lineup, they're not replacing TSN. TSN will still be broadcasting some games.

Recently the EIHL (top British league) have had more games televised. This past winter I was watching one and then I heard a voice that I knew I recognised. I never caught the intermission or visual chat but when I searched online I found out it was indeed Romanuk. Not sure if he was a regular commentator as I had seen/heard others but good to see he was still active.

Anyone who has read me for a loooong time may remember that Romanuk was my favorite play-by-play guy. I loved how he called the WJC and he was a real up and comer. But then he made the mistake of joining the new upstart radio station TEAM 1050. One year later, TEAM shut down and Romanuk was pretty much shut out. Jim Van Horne was another victim

Very happy to have Romanuk back

Negative, Rogers owns the rights to all NHL games broadcast in Canada. They have chosen to partner with CBC so as to continue the Hockey Night in Canada tradition (makes sense since that's such an ingrained and beloved 'brand' in Canada).
The only way TSN will be allowed to broadcast NHL games for the next 12 years is if Rogers feels that they can't cover all the games they want and decides to throw a couple scraps their way. Which means TSN might get a few Phoenix vs Florida type matchups but that's it. As far as hockey goes, they're history.

I hadn't heard that at all (though I haven't read much on it since the news first broke), do you have a link for how that works?

I like the lineup except for Hughson. Never liked him (could have something to do with him being a Canucks homer) and would have preferred Cuthbert.
