Default Was Bishop a One Hit Wonder??

I have the chance to take him early in the draft. Is he a major upgrade on Holtby? Should I move one of my other G's in favour of Bishop and try to get a top F

Was this past season a fluke? (vezina/37 wins/7SO)

Is he top 5 or will he drop off?

I wish there weren't just two very contrasting options. i'm not sure if he's a top goalie yet, but I do not think he was a one hit wonder. I see more of an above average goalie.

Holtby wouldn't even fight Emery. Bishop is much better.

I came here to say this too. I was going to say "I think the issue here is your choice of words 'one hit wonder'".

Is he a one hit wonder? I'd say no. Is he a top goalie that will contend for the Vezina multiple times? I'd also say no. I say year-over-year he should be a good bet to finish anywhere between 5th and 15th in the league as far as fantasy rankings are concerned.

I'm surprised Bishop isn't trying to negotiate an extension after the Vezina nomination. He only has one year left at a cap hit of 2.3m/year.

    Going forward he's a 8th-15th best goalie.

    Cheers

Probably because Steve Y. knows what he's doing, haha. I don't think Bishop can BS his way to an overpaid contract - and I think he knows Stevie won't do it.

LOL, if Bishop has another Vezina like year - the team will overpay. But I wouldn't count on a repeat year..........

I'm going to assume that you intentionally put the two extremes, given that you believe that most people would pick the middle option (average/above average starter).

I think I saw some statistical work on goalies with massive spikes in performance, and I don't think the odds are too good for Bishop. I could easily be wrong about the data, and the data only speaks in probabilities, but I don't personally value him as a top goaltender.

How do we know he isn't trying to negotiate?

Fluke in terms of those numbers but he won't fall off the cliff. He's not a Vezina calibre goalie.

    ^I agree with Ev.
I think Bishop is in the 15-20th range of NHL goalies... safe in his spot as TB #1, but he won't repeat those GAA/SV% numbers.

    In one year leagues:
I'd be drafting him after Lehtonen & Mike Smith.
I'd be drafting him before Jaro Halak & Luongo.

    .
That's about right I think. I might do Luongo before Bishop, not sure. It's close.

I just traded Bishop in my keeper league because I had to choose between Bishop and Smith essentially for my last keeper spot. In the end the proven track record won out.

In fact, I was going to disagree with the 8-15 ranking, thinking he was closer to the top, but I was wrong. Let's go to the list ... I think most would agree that Rask, Crawford, Lunqvist, Price, Fluery, Quick, Rinne (if back to normal) and Niemi are likely to post better numbers than Bishop in the next year or so. There is no particular order to the list, and I am assuming that there are no unforeseen offseason changes. I think that Bishop belongs to the group that contains Bobrovsky, Varly, Smith, Lehtonen and a few others - that is 2nd tier. This is the group where you could argue that Bishop belongs to one end, say 15-16, or at the other end, say 9-11 Me thinks that puts Bishop in the 9-16 group or thereabouts. I would put him at the tail end until he and the Lightning have 2 good seasons in a row. Just my 2 cents.
