And affordable
It sets a nice order to things. Hutton is older and more mature while Mazanec can develop more on the farm.

That's gotta be the best bargain for a backup on the Market. Shows confidence in Rinne that he will play tonnes of games or they perhaps might have looked elsewhere for a more competent and more expensive backup, but since they rolled with Mazanec and Hutton pretty well all during Rinne's absence, something tells me the always budget conscious Preds weren't going to go out there to spend a Mil or three on a journeyman backup with more experience, based on last year's okay performance from this guy. This is definitely a great deal for the Preds, especially if Rinne is back to 100% and can start 65+. No sense in diverting resources to this issue if he can hold it afloat. Might be risky but if they think Rinne is not a gamble to play the full year, perhaps not so risky at all. I still expect them to be out of the playoffs next year, barring some change in offensive personnel.

Hopefully they actually play him. I think the Predators' lack of success in the post season is largely due to the fact that eevery time they get there Rinne is too tired from playing 75 games in the regular season to be any good in the post season. Of course Hutton is probably their best backup they've had with Rinne in net. I'd say Lindback was good but we all saw how things went down with him in Tampa Bay.

Smart signing, both sides.
For Nashville, an adequate back-up at a GREAT price.
For Hutton, he's smart enough to take the deal in an NHL where there are currently a lot of emerging quality back-ups and he should be very happy to have a contract/role.
