canucks are second worst. this goes right in line with that article last week saying how bad ron delorme's reign with vancouver has been
Posted this over on another board and it's almost funny to see how quickly fellow Oil fans attacked it, saying that the Oilers drafting is the worst thing ever and there's no way their drafting is roughly league average, how this doesn't account for player "quality", etc. Talk about a self-loathing fan base. Anyways, enjoy, courtesy of @DimFilipovic:

One day I will quit fantasy hockey, today is not that day.
And Tampa is last, and it's not a surprise when you look at their drafting history:

Note: 08/09 were Stamkos/Hedman. Prior to 2010 they hired a new director of scouting. 07 and prior is just disgusting, with Paul Ranger being the gem of the group.
the blown drafts chart is pretty neat as well
Interesting chart.
It can be a bit tough to extract value out of these things though.
For example, the "weight" is going to most heavily lean towards the teams that drafted well at the farthest end of the study (early 2000s) because those guys have soaked the most time in the NHL.
You can see Buffalo really having a strong draft in the early 2000s with 10 players in 2000-2001-2002-2003 that have played over 400 GP.

Nice chart - but I'm unsure if there is any "value" we can pull out of it.
I'd be willing to bet that the turnover at the GM/Head of Scouting for most teams since, say, 2004, is... 80%... maybe 90% turnover since 2004.
No claims to causation but if you want to talk correlation, there's certainly an argument to be made. Tampa/Vancouver being far below average, teams like San Jose, Colorado, Boston, Buffalo being well above average (and coincidentally having a lot of homegrown talent on their roster).
Great chart, thanks for sharing. Boy, that Tampa Bay line is going to reverse itself in an awful hurry, as Stamkos/Palat/Drouin/Kucherov/Hedman pile up the games. Unfortunately, they didn't draft Brown or Johnson...otherwise it would move even faster
