    Default 2014 NHL Draft Q & A [Dean Youngblood]

With a bit of extra time on my hands, I'm here to take any 2014 NHL Draft related questions.

No exhaustive lists and just remember, I may not reveal all of my secrets

I save those for Dobber's Fantasy Prospect Report...coming early June.

    Shoot!

Hey Dean, if I got the 3rd overall pick, which forward should I go for (assuming Bennett and Reinhart are gone)? And if any of these guys are available in my 2nd rd, which one would you choose: Milano, Fabbri, Goldobin, Ho-Sang, Point ? Thanks

Many leagues are counting FOW, Hits, Blocks these days.
Are there any future FOW beasts or Hits Kings in the upcoming draft?

Fantasy wise, how would you compare the top 5 this year to the past few years? How about the top 10?

hey dean thanks for doing this.

in my UHL league i have 5th overall pick, i know who i am targeting but you know these guys better than most.

i'm assuming bennet, reinhart and ekblad will be gone top 3. who are the next two best guys i should go after?

Skater Categories: G, A, PPP, SHP, GWG, PIM, +/, SOG, Hits, Blks, FOW
    Roster: 3C, 3LW, 3RW, 3F, 6D, 1G, 4BN, 4 IR

Centers are generally valued higher than wingers because we count FOW. That being said I'm looking for the best available player offensively.

Hey Dean, I've got the 8th overall selection in a keeper points only league. Am I wrong to target Fiala instead of Virtanen, Ritchie, Kapanen, Fabbri... ?

    Thanks for your help!

Hey Dean, I have 4 of the top 7 picks in this years draft (3 top 6 lottery picks and 7th overall) and will be looking to use all of them on prospects as I am rebuilding and will be activating Nyquist, Yakupov, Coyle and Lehner this year. I was wondering who would be your top 10 players (forwards or D) from this years draft for a keeper league with the following stats: G, A, Pts, +/-, STP, SOG, PIMs. Also if Johnny Gaudreau was available would you draft him in the top 7 and if so where would he rank.

    I appreciate the help.
    10 Team Keeper League, 15 Keepers (max 2 goalies), 10 prospects, Start 2C, 2LW, 2RW, 3 Utility, 4D, 2G

    Stats: G, A, P, +/-, PIMS, SOG, STP; W, SO, SV%, GAA

C: MacKinnon, Scheifele, Larkin, Pavelski (RW)
LW Panarin, Ehlers , Ovechkin, Verhaeghe (C), Beauvillier, Killorn
RW: Kucherov, Pastrnak, Wheeler, Mangiapane (LW)
D: Makar, Hughes, Krug; Pietrangelo, Schmidt, Andersson, Gostibehere
    G: Vasilevskiy, Hellebuyck, Bobrovsky

Prospects: Sorokin (G), Askarov (G), Raymond (LW), Kaliyev (RW), Perfetti (RW), Norris (C), Kaprizov (LW), Hayton (C), Brannstrom (D), Boqvist (D), Clarke (D)

I am from Denmark and was wondering how Nikolaj Ehlers is valued compared to other Danish prospects like Nicklas Jensen and Oliver Bjorkstrand. Is Ehlers the top dog of those to own ?

And where should he be picked in a fantasy draft top 5,10, 15?

Hey Dean, always love it when you open these up. many thanks.

I am curious about the goalies in this years draft. Who are the ones to keep an eye on and how late do you think they last on the draft board before we see some of them start to go?

If Bennett and Reinhart are gone, I'm looking at drafting either William Nylander, Leon Draisaitl or Nikolaj Ehlers. Nylander has the highest upside IMO but all three have very projectable games.

In the second round, if you can nab any one of those guys (Milano, Fabbri, Goldobin, Ho-Sang, Point) you are looking good. At the top of my list would by Fabbri but Goldobin is a favourite of mine too. Milano would be next. Ho-Sang is a boom/bust but his game is too volatile for my liking. Sure, his upside is huge but I foresee a lot of issues.

Are you looking for the top dogs in each of the categories or just in general for a league counting those stats? I'm guessing the latter.

Look for Sam Bennett to lead the way in multi-cat leagues since he's a little bit of a pest. Nick Ritchie would be the next best pick IMO. Brendan Lemieux, Anton Karlsson are good options too. Richard Nejezchleb is a player to watch outside of the top 60. Hunter Smith is a player who was passed over that'll demolish PIM and hit categories

On defense, it's normally the defensive dman that stand out so you're sacrificing offensive but Josh Jacobs (modest production), Aaron Haydon, Brett Lernout, Adam Ollas Mattsson, Vladislav Gavrikov, William Lagesson (modest production) are defenders to watch.

    For fantasy purposes only...

    1. Sam Bennett
    2. William Nylander
    3. Nikolaj Ehlers
    4. Leon Draisaitl
    5. Sam Reinhart
    6. Kasperi Kapanen
    7. Michael Dal Colle

It's not the order I would take them if I was behind an NHL GM desk but based on offensive potential, it's how I would rank them in our little fantasy world.

Notice, I gave you seven instead of six You're welcome.
