    Default Diminishing Returns: Derek Roy

Derek Roy was a borderline keeper for me 3 seasons ago, but since then, his numbers have been dropping like Enron stock:

    2011-12: 1.96 FP/G
    2012-13: 1.81 FP/G
    2013-14: 1.34 FP/G

The only reason his numbers are even THIS good is becasue his FOW have remained at least passable.

Is he a prime candidate for a bounceback season, or is he waiver wire fodder from here on out?

i'm hoping he takes a 2-3M deal and signs with the hawks and plays alongside kane. it's a longshot, but i think that's the best way he can revive his career. dont really see him making a huge fantasy impact anywhere else. should still be a 40ish point player on most teams if he can get top 6 minutes. realistically, next year i think worst case = 30 points, best case = 50 points. good late round gamble i suppose, but i'm sure there are better options out there.

Very well said. Never thought of Chicago as a potential landing place.

Agreed, his max is 50 points - hard to believe he was a ppg player not long ago.

He was my second-worst (non-prospect) forward last year. Players I could replace him with are the likes of Joel Ward, Craig Smith, or Travis Zajac. Do I gamble on Smith turning it up under a non-Trotz system, or go with the safer points in someone like Zajac?

Yes, apart from the fact that I'm not sure which four of Galchenyuk/Granlund/Huberdeau/Nyquist/Yakupov are going to be protected against the new expansion team this year.

I will lose one player this year to expansion, and I'm dropping Peverley for obvious reasons. The question is if Roy should be on his way out as well.

Smith over Roy, ya. I'm not sure Smith is gonna improve much beyond what he did this year, but it's still probably more than you'll get from Roy. Dobber has pointed it out a few times in ramblings, but ever since Roy's quad injury he just hasn't been nearly the same. For a player who based a lot of his game around speed, a leg injury like that can be a killer and it has been so for Roy the last two years.

    Thanks very much, everyone!

Anyone want to take a stab at my 5 great prospects, 4 protection slot problem?

FP/G for the 5 players this year:

    Galchenyuk: 1.34 FP/G
    Granlund: 1.76 FP/G
    Huberdeau: 1.08 FP/G
    Nyquist: 2.19 FP/G
    Yakupov: 1.07 FP/G

Nyquist seems like the obvious choice here, but I worry about his sky-high shooting percentage (18.3%) and his lack of production in the playoffs.

Wow - that's tough and worthy of its own thread. I would suggesting starting one to get feedback. Cheers.

That's a tough choice (prospects). If possible, I would definitely try and move one of them for a decent return. If you HAVE to outright drop one I have to say Yakupov. I am not of the opinion that he is a bust yet but you have a great set of prospects. Really hope you can move one of them for something
