Hey all, anyone have some insight on this guy? I remember in his draft year, he was getting some hype as a potential 1st overall contender if not for his injuries. Good numbers in the AHL, but hasn't been able to stick in the NHL. I'm looking to draft him for some cheap depth with upside, but I'm just looking for some thoughts on him.

I second this. I know some like him and some don't but I haven't seen enough to really make a judgment. One thing I do know is Tampa has become crowded. Now I believe he is a FA so maybe a chance somewhere else is what he needs?

I'm not totally sure, but I do think he might face a similar fate to that of Colborne and Holland. I believe he'll lose waiver eligibility next season and have diminishing value, so unless he makes the team out of training camp, you might just find him traded to another team. I know a lot of Tampa fans are willing to trade him, looking to swap him for a dman of similar value.

He just doesn't simply have a spot in Tampa anymore. Too many people have passed over him. Unless I see him having a very strong camp, or traded, I'd probably wouldn't count on much from him.

He's a Restricted Free Agent. I expect he'll get qualified and take the offer, which means he'll have the same contract he had last year.

I keep hearing he might get traded to Nashville for Ryan Ellis. As a Connolly owner, I would love that. He is buried pretty deep on the Tampa depth chart.

He sure did have some big hype... And then the hype went away and I have heard next to nothing on him.

He needs to go to a new team in the worst way. He's been passed over in Tampa, and there's still lots of other young guys to come up through their system (ie- Drouin). I would think he would be a good fit for a team like Calgary. He could get lots of ice time, no real youth to pass him for a few years, he's from B.C. so it would be a lot closer to home, etc.

Connolly is a very weird case these days. Seemingly he's fallen out of favour in TB, being passed over by the likes of Palat, Johnson, Kucherov, Killorn and Brown; they have Drouin potentially joining the team next season; Erne and Namestnikov are both pretty good prospects going forward too.

In all honesty I really expected Connolly to be moved at the deadline.

Personally I don't see any issues in Connolly's game. He had a great preseason and somehow still got sent down to Syracuse. He's big, he can score and he's a very good skater - he just needs to catch a break.

Maybe he finds himself traded in a Niederreiter type of situation? Though Connolly has repeatedly said he trusts the organization and their plan for him and that he's just going to keep working as hard as he can to make the Lightning.

Thanks everyone....a trade is definitely needed in his case it seems like since he's been passed by just about everyone in the organization. Normally I'd say that's a bad sign but I don't know, I'm just really interested in him. I know consistency is a big problem with him right now, he had something like a 20 points in 8 games stretch this year in Norfolk on the heels of going scoreless for a long while. Seems to be his biggest issue at the moment since the tools are all there and at a high level. A trade out of Tampa just makes too much sense since they really don't have a need or room for him anymore.
