    I...am your father.

Default Ovechkin's not gonna like his new coach... (ahem - Trotz)

    From Elliott Friedman:
Not sure what's out there or who deserves credit for initial report, but hearing Barry Trotz has informed teams he is no longer available as a candidate. It is believed he is closing in with Washington.

So there you have it. Can Ovechkin and Backstrom even reach the 80-point mark under him? I have a feeling he'd play the hell out of John Carlson. I think this could be big for Carlson

I don't see this as a good move for the Caps. Yes they have to improve their defensive play, but I am not sure Trotz is the right fit...he's hard-nosed and old-school - I can't see Ovechkin responding positively to his style, in fact I think it'll make him dog it even more. The beginning of the end for OV in Washington? He'll get traded (if that's possible) or pull a Kovalchuk.

Not this crap again. Ovechkin will be the same damn player he always is. It's hilarious how people think Trotz is some defensive trapper who doesn't let players play their game.

To me ( and I could be wrong ) but this feels like Torts going to Vancouver, same type of thing here. Offensive team gets a defensive minded coach and system put in place and they fall on their asses. I like Trotz as a coach better than I do Torts, but I have a gut feeling the same type of scenario plays out here that just happend with the Canucks. Crazy thinking?

Well, to Washington's credit at least they finally went with an experienced coach.

Maybe I am wrong, but I don't get the fuss over Trotz and being "defensive". I find he is a coach that does what he can with the players at his disposal. In Nashville, he had to play a well-structured, defensive game. I think he will be great for Washington, IMO.

Kariya and forsberg were effective offensive players for Nashville, I don't see the issue. Don't forget Sullivan/Legwand/walker were also a relatively productive offensive line as well

To me the problem is that Trotz is a coach that demands accountability and Ovechkin doesn't want to be held accountable.

Does Trotz going to Washington lure Shero in with him?

Exactly, it's hilarious how people paint this or that coach with these broad brushes.
Bottom line is that good coaches are good coaches because they can look at the pieces they have and design a gameplan that maximizes their strengths and minimizes the weaknesses. Trotz is a very good coach, he'll be fine and so will Ovie, you guys are making mountains out of molehills

I get the feeling that players actually like playing for Trotz, heck, he even got Kostitsyn to care for a bit.
