    Default Eberle / RNH

    Hello,

Could I have your advice on this one.

    Regular keeper league.

Do you take Eberle or Nugent-Hopkins

I'll take Eberle in all formats of fantasy hockey.
As a winger with an extra season of hockey, I think he has & will continue to be given more offensive freedom to score - and this is very beneficial in fantasy hockey.

A hit on RNH's production is the fact that he plays center, where he needs to think and focus on the defensive aspect of his game and playing 200'.
This can eat up some young centers... and I see RNH struggling with it.

For me, this makes Eberle (stays healthier, better past production, and plays wing) the slam-dunk choice here.
I'll be shocked if anybody actually picks RNH over Eberle.

    Welcome to the forums!!!

Agree that Eberle is the one I would keep, as wingers are tougher to get that have good production.
What are your league categories as that has an effect on who to pick?

If you have positional requirements and/or multiple categories - then Eberle easily.

If this is a basic points only keeper league that just counts goals/assists, then RNH would be the choice.

    Cheers.

In terms of offensive upside, its gotta be RNH and not that close. Eberle has already hit his highest producing season and is unlikely to ever replicate it. RNH has not. Multi-cat, with positional requirements, wingers are generally more valuable than centers, and RNH doesn't offer a lot of contributions outside of points.

Depends on the setup of your league, mainly how many you keep, and your teams focus.

As pointed out Eberle is a winger and will contribute slightly more in multi-categories, although neither is a real great option for PIMs/HITs/Blocks. Eberle is also more mature so in the next 1-2 years he's probably a better option. Long term however I much prefer RNH. His ceiling is much higher and 2+ years out I'd be looking for big numbers from him. In a deeper keeper I'd lean towards RNH, if it's more shallow and you're in win now mode Eberle may be preferred.

In position locked league set-ups, generally always take the winger over the center. Center is such a deep position that you can even keep a winger that produced a bit less than the center. From a guy who has 2 elite centers with Stamkos and Backstrom, never have 2 elite/Keeper centers haha. Every trade proposal has a center involved, every waiver wire player is a center, every FA you want to pick up is a center. It’s hard to ice the best team when you invest a lot in a center position.

In a strict fantasy setting its Eberle for me as well.

However in Sim it would depend on my roster depth. I like RNH's upside and the Oilers hopefully building something special and not continuing to spin their tires. I recently traded Kessel for him and a pick which turned out to be Craig Smith in the IHL APBA league. However that kind of deal most likely doesn't work in a straight up stats league.
Consider Sim Hockey because guys who play shutdown minutes, deflect shots and clear creases build championships. Yet in fantasy they litter the unwanted UFA lists.

Oh geez, no positions changes a lot. This is a close one. I’m going to stick with Eberle though. 3 yrs in a row he’s played 78 games or more (lockout he did the full season). Point per game I think RNH is better, but points at the end of the yr I think Eberle will take it.
