Default Team Blowing up, any parts worth chasing??

One of our GM's just posted that he is "blowing up his team". He has done this before, and has enjoyed some success, but his team is getting older again. Some of the more interesting guys on his roster include: Joe Thornton, Alex Steen, Patric Honrqvist, Brad Richards, Andrew Ladd & M.A. Fleury. Given what I have on my team (lots of youth, see sig below) is there any part of his team worth trying to pick up? What should I give up??

i would go after fleury. say what you want about him, but he's still the clear cut number 1 starter for a perennial powerhouse. i would offer him silfverberg, who i feel is overhyped. too much depth in anaheim, and i think he gets the short end of the stick there. maybe grigorenko and pirri if that's what he wants as well.

Your team might be competitive in a few years - can't see how any of the players named would be an asset you would want to chase now. Fleury is the only player I would remotely consider but I wouldn't pay for him with youth when you need him to be good 3 years from now - anything can happen between now and then.

Patrick Hornqvist - may be someone who can be picked up cheap. New coach in Nashville.

Agreed, in many scenarios. Not sure he'd be much use to a team that's clearly not built for short-term competition though. I mean, best case, Hornqvist explodes for what, 65 points? Then he has to maintain that for 3-4 years until this team is ready to compete.
That said, if he is available cheap, he might not be a bad option to acquire and flip for something better a couple of months into the season. Bit of a gamble though, since he could just as easily be hurt a couple of months into the season.

Normally I'd say Thornton for sure and probably Fleury, maybe Ladd, but considering the overall age of your team I wouldn't be looking to trade for any of those players.

I'd go after Fleury.. Thornton is too old for your team.. it's so weird that Thornton is an 'old guy' now..

IMO you should go after any player you can get that is below market value. If you can get Thornton cheap enough that you'd feel comfortable flipping him mid season for a higher price, then by all means do it.

Just because you don't have the intention to compete this year doesn't mean you shouldn't be searching for profit.

For example. I was rebuilding a few years ago. A guy wanted to move Shane Doan for only a 2nd round pick. So I obliged. And traded him 4 weeks later for a 2nd and a 3rd. Huge profit? Not really. But I gained an extra third round pick. And if my memory serves me right, the 2nd ended up a higher pick.

I would consider Pirri for Hornqvist, but I'm honestly not sure it's worth the aggravation.

really? i wouldnŽt. Couts is only going to get better from here on IMO. Not a chance iŽd move Couts for Hornqvist.

like others have said, the only one worth pursuing is fleury, and that only to maybe move him for other assets, as i think your team might still be 3 years away (i wonder if fleury is still the clear cut number one by then).
obviously there are some guys that will produce next season, but not all of them.

Thanks for all the good advice and opinions. I may make a bid on Hornqvist and Fleury, but use them as trade bait to grow my young team. Thanks again, guys!

I like Thornton, Steen, Ladd, and Fleury. Ladd and Fleury the most. Hornqvist could be alright...maybe he hits 50.
