Sulzer signs 5 yr deal in Germany
Alexander Sulzer, who was scheduled to be an unrestricted free-agent this summer, didn't wait long to make a move. After reportedly being told that the Sabres would not be bringing the veteran defenseman back for next season, Sulzer signed a five-year deal with Kolner Haie of the DEL.
Sulzer was acquired by the Sabres as a part of the Cody Hodgson-Zack Kassian trade. The Sabres swapped defensemen along with the forwards as part of the trade, as Sulzer went to Buffalo and Marc-Andre Gragnani went to Vancouver. Gragnani played 14 games with the Canucks before being let go at the end of that season. Sulzer played 57 games over three seasons with the Sabres, scoring six goals and eight assists.
He also played ten games with the Rochester Americans after being waived early this season, scoring two goals and five assists. He was recalled on November 23nd and stayed with the Sabres for the rest of the season. On March 13 he suffered a concussion that ended his season. For most of the year he was either injured or scratched, playing only 25 games.
