Default Last keeper: Carlson vs J. Johnson

Well, I had Carlson penciled in all along (as you can see in my signature), but the more I look into it the more I also consider Jack Johnson. I'm not letting the playoffs fool me as he always seems to do well in these high pressure games, but looking at their stats across the board he is an enticing candidate. The reasoning for choosing Carlson originally is: youth, point potential, and he is a stud in leagues that count shots and blocks. That said, Johnson gives good across-the-board coverage. Here are their stats this year:

    Carlson: 82 GP
    37 pts, 208 shots, 64 hits, 177 blocks

    Johnson: 82 GP
    33 pts, 147 shots, 182 hits, 128 blocks

What do you think? Stick with Carlson?

In a league that counts blocks I would still edge Carlson. The D is the only position where you can really rack up those numbers and Carlson is great in that regard, the fact that he adds some good offensive cats to boot and should have more upside makes him my pick.

Thanks for the input (repped you!). That is exactly why I like Carlson. He's basically the only D-man in the league that puts up that many blocks while still putting up good points. It saves me from having to get a MacDonald-type guy. Pretty huge. Thought Johnson is definitely worth considering as he's not inept at blocks, but he put up a ton of hits this season.

So far, that's a bit more confirmation for my choice of Carlson though. Thanks.

    Carlson for me.
I think you can make up the HITS elsewhere.
HITS is one of the easiest cats to find a way to fit into your team... it's there at every position, if need be.

Thanks Pengwin7. Similar to my original thoughts. Good to see unanimous support for Carlson.

Carlson for me. Sure, he's been disappointing, but he really has been getting better each year and this year we actually saw decent PP time out of him. New coach could help or hurt, who knows

Yeah, he seemed to finally have that PP1 spot locked down too. Here's to hoping the new coach keeps him there!

other than Hits Carlson beats him in every category unless i am missing something

Carlson is only disappointing if you have unrealistic expectations for him, not every defenseman is a 50 point defenseman no matter what anyone in here tries to tell you

people are still holding onto Carlson projections from 10-11

go with Carlson in this instance but don't hold out for higher expectations from him than what he is
