    Default Weird Rebuild Strategy

In keeper leagues I’ve seen the strategy where people dump their good players for youth and picks. But has anyone ever tried upgrading their keepers and totally throwing away NEXT yrs picks. Like for me I was thinking of boosting my 6 keepers to a huge level, but doing by trading away my picks.

I would trade like JVR and a 1st round pick for Kane (just a thought). Or Marty St Louis a 2nd and 5th for Ovi. I’d have to look at players that would seriously upgrade my keepers, but you get my point.

I would do this strategy this offseason, so I would have bad picks for the 2014-15 draft, but have 6 RIDICULOUS players for 2015-16 season, and my normal picks (and most likely top 3 pick due to doing terrible during the season). I just want to know if anyone has tried this before. If not, maybe I’ll try it out and report back.

Ah yes, the "alternating year" rebuild...

    I've done that one before.
It works nicely in "partial keepers" with "redrafts".

Gain strength through the following pattern:

    1. Trade away all of your draft picks to build a boss keeper group. Odd years.
    2. Trade away all of your non-keepers for draft picks. Even years.
    REPEAT.
The concept is to take turns strengthening your keeper group and stocking your redraft picks.
I've also (unfortunately) seen this as a "buddy-system" where one guy gives his best players to his buddy one year for picks.
The next year the buddy with the draft picks gets the good players thrown to him.

Think of it this way too:
Ever year, each team has a value of 50.0.
    That's "middle of the pack".
Why not have a team score of 1/100 one year, with a team score of 100/100 the next year?

In fantasy hockey, the best place to finish is FIRST.
The next best place to finish is... often... LAST.

Especially these days, where we know the quality of prospects in upcoming entry drafts... it can be a dynamite strategy.

    +1 from me.

Your strategy makes perfect sense to me. It also illustrates why many folks, such as myself, despise limited keeper pools

In a limited keeper, I always try to upgrade my core of keepers by sending packages of lesser keepers, non-keepers, or picks for an upgrade. I'm always doing two-solid-guys for one-incredible-guy type deals. Not sure if that's the best strategy, but it's worked out so far! I have horrible picks this year, but I've got a pretty good core of studs I kept.

If you can get some stud players the strategy is okay, just puts a little pressure on you to draft some good players with your lower pics. If you trade a 1st try and get back a 3rd in the deal, things like that.
You also have to find some dance partners for these deals as well.
