A wise GM should be whispering in his owner's ear "Maybe we should wait another year to make a big improvement."

It's one thing for an owner to say he's going to do it... spend the money.
It's another thing to actually do it.
And it's an all-together different thing to do it wisely.

Florida is a long-term project for any coach.
Minimum 5-year project to make that a Cup contender.

Do you really think Trotz is up for a 5-year project?
Do you really think Florida is going to spend cap dollars THIS summer?

Give me an answer on each of those.
    For the record.
I pointed out how you contradicted yourself. That's it.

So you are not really trying to add anything to the thread?
You are just nitpicking things you don't like about people's comments?

good god man, that's not nitpicking. You said the panthers won't have money to spend when they specifically said they would. Then you commented yeah but spending money doesn't matter. Do you know how contradictory that sounds? In your first post you implied they need to spend money for Trotz to be interested, then you say it doesn't matter.

Florida would be a very good spot for Trotz. There are only 30 jobs. 30 jobs.

There are "cap-spending" teams in the league and there are non-cap spending teams in the league.
Every new owner that comes in (like Pegula) likes to showboat their "bottomless pockets" and say they will grant their GM to spend cap dollars to build a winner.

But the fan-base isn't there in some markets to pull it off.
What the owner says & what really happens can be different things. (shocker, I know)

Like if a GM says "We are really trying to re-sign PlayerX, it is our #1 priority this off-season."
And yet, often, the player has already told the GM that he doesn't intend to re-sign.

Executives say stuff to indicate to their fan-base that they want to make an effort to improve.
This is very, very, very common.

So you are all proud now that you know about the Florida owner's comment to spend the CAP.
And thus, Trotz & other coaches (according to where you are taking this) should be HIGHLY interested in that Florida position... with all those kids AND an endless budget.

    That's a goldmine to succeed?

Do you think this is something that interests Trotz?

The only thing you've done here is identify a team owner that "says" he's going to do something.
    It hasn't been done yet.
And... I (for one)... will be very, very, very surprised if Florida actually does spend cap dollars.

If it happens, you are welcome to come back and say "I told you so".
Until then, Florida is still the 30th team in the league in cap and perhaps one of the three furthest teams, IMO, from challenging for the cup.

For a 51-year old guy like Trotz, this doesn't sound like a promising position... especially after spending the last 15 seasons in a non-hockey market.
(Then again... old people sure like Florida....)

i don't think Trotz will do Florida, he will bide his time and pick where he wants to go. Don't think he wants to be involved in a building project.
My betting is that he ends up in Washington, he may be the type of coach they need and are in a win now mode.

From my perspective the question boils down to "is there a team that can use the experience on Trotz's resume" ? That answer is undoubtedly yes. A few teams that come to mind are Edmonton, Florida, Islanders, Ottawa and Toronto. I chose those team names because they were the worst 5 on 5 teams in the NHL last season.
There is also Carolina to consider.

Is trotz the best choice for these teams ? Perhaps not, but they can do a whole lot WORSE. (with the exception of Ottawa)
Consider Sim Hockey because guys who play shutdown minutes, deflect shots and clear creases build championships. Yet in fantasy they litter the unwanted UFA lists.

It also wouldn't surprise me to see Trotz take some time off - perhaps even a full year.
He's got FOUR kids, who (I believe) all live in Brentwood, Tennessee (per wiki), suburb of Nashville.

Trotz always struck me as a family man.
None of us really know if they'd be OK with him leaving to Carolina or Washington or Sunrise to go coach?
It is nice that those locations are somewhat local - but they are still quite distant.

A good article yesterday on Trotz (via Custance).
And the full-page ad he took out in the local paper in Nashville.

Well, Trotz isn't in sunny Florida.

Prediction: Bylsma ends up in Florida when the dust settles in Pittsburgh.

Coach announcement for the Panthers was set back to mid June by Tallon. So you might be right on the Bylsma call.

Bylsma could be a good fit.
I had heard that his practices were a little bit strict... but also they do fun things with the shootout/facial hair.
For a young team like Florida - that could work well.
It seems that Pittsburgh just wasn't "young" enough to have it be effective.
But I could totally see this move.
