Default New Unique and Very In Depth Dynasty League

Are you looking for a new dynasty league, but bored of the usual formats and strategy? Look no further!

I'm looking for GMs who are up for a new kind of challenge in a new and very in-depth league hosted on fantrax.

What makes this pool truly a unique challenge are the numerous different starting positions which are scored slightly differently to best reflect the relevant stats for that position.

In total, rosters are divided into 7 different starting positions:
    Forward(6)
    Center(2)
    PP Specialists(3)
    PK Specialists(2)
    Defensemen(4)
Goalies(2; 1 designated starter and 1 designated backup)
    Enforcer(1)

So every week you will have new choices to make. Have a Forward on a goal streak? Slot him into the PP Specialist Slot for a 20% Goal & Assist bonus. Got a slumping Forward who is at least blocking a lot of shots? Throw him on the PK! Each position will have pros and cons and it's up to YOU to maximize your players' potential!

    LEAGUE RULES & FORMAT

    -----REGULAR SEASON
-H2H Points**TBD, but the following rules will outline a H2H season. If the majority prefer to go straight points we will use a similar version of this format, but with all H2H elements & Playoff Rounds simply replaced by fantasy points totals and divisions where necessary.**
-Hosted on Fantrax, runs through the whole NHL regular season.
    -SCHEDULE
-81 Game Schedule. (depending on the actual NHL schedule length, this number may change slightly from year to year).
-Teams will play weekly 'triple-headers': throughout each week you will face off against 3 other teams simultaneously. A W or L is awarded for each matchup. So at the end of each week each team will have a 3-0, 2-1, 1-2, or 0-3 record (ties are also possible, but unlikely to occur). This schedule is generated randomly by Fantrax at the beginning of the season.
-Daily lineup changes are allowed, but teams should note there are maximum games played for the year, so streaming players into your active lineups will hurt you at the end of the year once you've reached your max games played.
    -ROSTERS
-30 total players: 20 total starters, 10 reserves slots containing your injured/reserves/farm team players.
-The starters are divided into 8 differently-scored positions:
    -6F 2C 3PP 2PK 1Enf 4D 2G(1 Starter, 1 Backup(G2)), and 3 'Reserves'.(See SCORING section for full details)
-Maximum Games Played Per Season: 82 games per each starting position, 65 games for starting and backup goalies. NHL starting goalies typically only play up to 65 games a year so teams can, in theory, get by with 2 healthy NHL starters.
    -WAIVERS/FREE AGENTS/IR
-Dropped players go on waivers for 2 days. Waiver priority resolved using the reverse order of the standings, reset weekly.
-1 IR spot. To be put on IR depends on whether Fantrax flags a player as injured or not. No enforcements for removing players from IR.
-After passing through waivers, Free Agents are claimed on a 'first come, first serve' basis.
-Undrafted Junior hockey players cannot be claimed unless they have already gone through an NHL Entry Draft.
    -DIVISIONS
-To determine playoff seeding, the league will be split into two divisions: The Chuck Norris, and the Samuel Adams.
-Teams will be split according to a ranked list of the teams (total points, previous year), with odd number ranked teams put into Chuck Norris, (1,3,5, etc.) and even ranked teams into Samuel Adams. (For year 1 the split will be random)
-For the playoffs, the top 3 from each division will be seeded in the first 6 slots of a 'traditional' 8 team bracket, single-knockout playoff format. All remaining teams 'qualify' for the playoffs but their first round will consist of one large wildcard bracket made up of six teams where only one team advances.

    -----PLAYOFFS
-H2H Points- runs through the NHL playoffs
-Same scoring scheme as regular season, but roster sizes are smaller: F5 C2 PP2 PK1 D3 G1 (Enf0) (14 Total)
-Unlike the regular season, teams will be constrained to a salary cap (as generated and handled by the fantrax, regenerated weekly based on player performance using their standard settings).
-Teams must first select 8 players from their regular season roster.
-Then using the system 'Player Picker', teams fill out the rest of the roster from any available player in the NHL (duplicates are allowed).
-Teams will be allowed 3 add/drops per week during playoffs. (Just as long your transaction does not put you over the budget).
-To start, teams will be divided into 4 groups.
-For Rounds 1 and 2 of the NHL playoffs, teams will battle within their groups to determine a group winner.
-For Round 3 of the NHL playoffs, the group winners will face off in a h2h matchup.
-The winners of round 3 will face off during the Stanley Cup Finals to determine the Big Cheese.
-The Big Cheese will be rewarded with an additional Amateur Draft Pick. The extra pick will be the last pick of the draft.

    -----OFFSEASON/AMATUER DRAFT/FREE AGENT FRENZY
-Inaugural slow 2014 summer draft. (24hrs/pick, 30 picks total, randomized, snaking)
-Basic offseason structure for the future>> Choose keepers >> Amateur Draft >> Free Agent Frenzy
    -KEEPERS
-Teams identify 7 prospects + 20 others to keep. (This gets the team down to 27 (or less if their prospect pool is depleted))
-Prospects are defined as < 25 years old and < 50 NHL games played.
    -AMATEUR DRAFT
-1-round draft starting during or shortly after the NHL amateur draft. This should get most rosters to 28/30
-To prevent tanking the #1 overall pick awarded to either the last or second-last place team in points. The team with the most player Games Played for the last 30 games of the regular season receives the #1 as a reward based loosely on participation.
-The remaining draft order is determined by reverse order of the regular standings.
    -FREE AGENT FRENZY
-Following the amateur draft, teams will be able to fill out and update their rosters in a weekly waiver-claim system.
-Claims for the same players are resolved by reverse order of regular season point standings and reset each week.
-Team roster sizes are capped @30, so if you reach 30 players you must specify drops along with any adds.
-Once the regular season starts all free agents will go through waivers then the normal free agent system is reestablished with unlimited adds/drops/waiver claims per season.

There are two lineup spots for Goalies, Starter and Backup, and they are scored slightly differently with a bonus to Wins and Shutouts for your starter.
Each lineup period you select who is the starter and who is the backup.
--Goalie #1- Your 'Starter', (designated by "G" in in your lineup screen.)
Win 1.5 (50% more than backup)
Shutout 1.5 (50% more than backup)
    OTLoss/Shootout Loss 0.5
    Save 0.125
    Goal Against -1
--Goalie #2 - You 'Backup', (designated by "G2" on your lineup screen.)
    Win 1
    Shutout 1
    Save 0.125
Goal Against -1 (same as starter)

    ---OTHER STUFF
-50% trade opposition (by veto) triggers a COMMISH REVIEW. The commish will use the principle that all GMs should be entitled to a fair game, and that means that GMs should be making deals in their own self-interest. But bad trades happen- it's part of the game- so Commish will not overturn anything unless collusion appears very likely, or if its negative effects to the league are extreme.
-A certain level of participation is required for a league of this size and format. Please make sure that you are AT LEAST set up to recieve messages from other GMs from fantrax. If a manager disappears for an extended time without notice and does not reply to messages their team may be replaced.
-No fees are required, but I do insist that people act with a reasonably polite attitude. Disrespectful behaviour is grounds for dismissal from the league.
-Unless specified by other rules, ties will be resolved by team points, then goals, then wins, then coin flip.
-Commish(s) will run the league and make judgments in the spirit of these rules.

Update: @5 managers and tweaked the playoffs into a cool H2H format that plays out through the NHL postseason and a free agent bidding system (read: frenzy!) in the summer.

This league has so many strategic angles that rumor has is that one GM's spreadsheet exploded when trying to prep for the draft.

@6 ... when contacting me please tell me a bit about your fantasy sports history. This is designed for the hardcore.

I'm committed to running it for free. But I'm considering paying for all or some of the premium league fees for additional features.

Due to interest in making this a Fee/Prize league, I am opening a second version that is a prize league. It will have very similar rules, but will use some of Fantrax's advanced (premium) features such as salaries, salary cap, a slightly expanded farm team and better IR & Minor League eligibility enforcements. Fees are not yet finalized, but will probably be close to $50 and split at least 4 ways between both playoff (i.e., the H2H parts) and regular season (i.e., total regular season points) winners.

ADDED SUMMER SALARY CAP (note- this is still for the free league)

-Before Keepers and Free Agency begins Salary Cap features in Fantrax will be turned on to give an advantage to the “have not” teams to reshape their rosters.
-We will use the NHL player salaries imported from Fantrax.
-Players designated on your farm team are exempt from the cap.
-After keepers are chosen, the Salary cap will be set to the largest team salary (based on only regular roster players, not farm players), plus 2% rounded to the nearest million. So all teams will start under the cap, but the teams who are projected as the strongest (i.e., carry the most salary) will start the free agency period pushed right up against the cap while relatively weaker teams are given more cap space and flexibility to add any Free Agents.
-Simply put, the system will not allow any transaction that would put you over the cap during summer free agency and up to the beginning of the regular season (so you will need to either drop or trade salary.)
-Once the regular season begins all salary constraints are lifted until next offseason.

the league is currently @9/12 . If you're interested in either this free one or the prize version (see also in this forums), let me know.

Still looking for 2 more GMs and then I will start a wait list. Part 1(amateur) of the inaugural draft is still set to coincide with the NHL Entry Draft and the rest of the draft will follow immediately for the rest of the summer. 24hrs/pick (but obviously people are encouraged to go faster.

League site now up and running, with latest rules and info: http://topcheddar.boards.net/
