Disagree - he should have been treated 10 times worse than Torres.
I don't think Cooke had any defenders
Where are all his defenders now.....
....the guy is a fungus on the armpit of the NHL.
That suspension is a joke. He should have been treated the same way Torres was ......

While I understand that Matt Cooke has been a dirty hockey player for a long time, can someone please explain to me why this kneeing penalty was suspendable while the Brian Bickell hit on Sobotka was not? Which is worse as an opposing player, someone coming straight at you from 10 feet away with his knees bent or someone who sticks his knee out at the last second as you try to skate around him?
Being a repeat offender has NOTHING to do with whether or not an incident is suspendable so please do not use that as the reasoning.
Here's a good article asking the same question:
http://jeffveillette.com/2014/04/22/...onal-response/
I supported Cooke's efforts to reform his game and thought perhaps he had done so (he's actually been totally clean since then and done a great job of being a role player - I'm not a conspiracy theorist who thought the Karlsson thing was on purpose). He certainly was doing everything he could to try and turn his game around and I supported that wholeheartedly.
However, he made another mistake, and so I'm not sure what else there is to say. He's not capable of keeping things under control it appears. He's still signed for two more years though, and does his job well (when he's not trying to hospitalize people), so I don't think we've seen the last of Cooke.
There is no difference, and yet is Bickell even going to get a single game suspension? There was another hit from behind on that game that was ugly (cant remember exactly who, but might have been on Sobotka yet again) and there was not even a penalty. Complaining about these things is a waste of time because there is simply no consistency in the NHL with these types of incidents, either during the game, or from the league after when reviewing it.

You bet. I didn't mean it to come across like Cooke's not at fault for his actions. In fact, he obviously is capable of keeping it under control because he has for the past couple years. However, he seems to revert back to his old ways eventually, so that's what I meant.
I can't even think what it must be like living his life of lies.....

I don't think it's that he doesn't know right from wrong, as he made serious efforts to try and reform his game over the past few years, and has largely succeeded. This is a combination of having a setback in his ability to stay clean, and people piling on because of his past history.
