Nichushkin. The higher upside and the better salary.
with a cap in place I would keep Nichushkin unless I felt I had a fairly good shot at making the finals next season. JVR is a fine hockey player but the cap hit makes me think that I can find his "offense" elsewhere at a better price.
Consider Sim Hockey because guys who play shutdown minutes, deflect shots and clear creases build championships. Yet in fantasy they litter the unwanted UFA lists.
Keep Nichuskin for sure...great bang for your buck from him.
The two players have similar upsides but in terms of cost per point, Nichuskin costs you 27K...JVR costs you 70K per point. Add to that the fact that Nichuskin's ELC is good for 2 more years and he's a steal, especially as he'll improve his numbers
I disagree with all posts above.
JVR has a very, very nice long-term salary.
You've got him for another 4 seasons at $5m or less.
JVR was the #52 ranked player in Yahoo! multi-cat this year.
Nich... I think we all "expect" that he's going to ride 3rd wheel with Seguin/Benn.
And d'you know what?
If you could get out the Crystal Ball and tell me that he will, for certain, play 70+ games as that winger for the next four seasons... I take Nich too.
But... teams typically keep their elite duo together and rotate that 3rd linemate in/out.
Thus - if Dallas sputters, Nich is the first guy off that top line.
I'll take JVR.
JVR - Kessel is just too solid... and any slight improvement from C1 will just make that line more incredible.
As for the cap space - only you know how to make that work, whether you are under a very serious cap crunch.
