O'Reilly is my guess, although I personally would like to see Marleau win it for some reason!

Hard to see O'Reilly not getting it. As much as this probably shouldn't have anything to do with voting, we are human and still allow it to creep into the thought process so the situation St. Louis and the Bolts had might hurt.

O'Reilly. Led the league in takeaways and didn't take an "aggressive" penalty all season.

It's sportsmanship, and regardless of how good a guy MSL is (and he strikes me as a very good guy and teammate), the optics of his trade demand don't work well with this award.

Ditto for RoR and his holding out for a big contract a year ago. This award is not only about PIM vs. points, but it's about reputation...which has a lot to do with perception. Marleau should take this award, as a result.

The RoR holdout totally slipped my mind as I argued for him and against St. Louis on something they both were at fault for!

RoR didn't really hold out though. He just didn't have a contract, so he couldn't play.

He was offered a contract. Several of them. And he held himself out of the room, rather than entering the room to sign it. "Hold out"

But when Calgary offered him a bigger contract, he entered the room and signed it.

I think it just be a semantics thing. Just because he chose to not sign a contract he didn't like doesn't mean he is a hold out, at least to me. I think of a holdout of a guy who has a contract but won't report.

RoR's holdout was last season though so it shouldn't be weighed against him for an award given out for this season.

The Lady Byng Memorial Trophy, formerly known as the Lady Byng Trophy, is presented each year to the National Hockey League "player adjudged to have exhibited the best type of sportsmanship and gentlemanly conduct combined with a high standard of playing ability".
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lady_Byng_Memorial_Trophy

How does MSL fit this profile this season given that he left TBL because he was butt hurt about Yzerman leaving him off team Canada?
