    Default Another Keeper Thread

    Hey guys,

Like most threads looking for a breakdown on which players to keep.

I'm in a H2H categories league. [G A +/- PIM PPP SHP BLOCKS HITS, W S% GAA SO and a new addition SOG]

    We do contracts for 4 players this season. [1 - 4yr, 1 - 3yr, 2 - 2yr]

I currently have reviewed this a million times, my current idea is this:

    Toews - 4yr contract
    Hall - 3 yr contract
    Simmonds - 2yr contract
    Subban - 2yr contract

Problem is I also have Pavelski & Schneider that I am wondering should be inserted in the 2 year contracts.

So the question is - was this season of Pavelski a showcase for years to come? Subban going to get out of the doghouse and elevate his game like his Norris calibre season? Schneider top of league in goalie categories and start the bulk of games with Brodeur gone?

Who would you guys choose and what contracts for in this scenario?

*should mention I have a late 1st round pick, and no 2nd or 3rd rounders (went for it all this year...and failed)

My suggestions are in bold above. I'd prefer to keep Pavelski over Toews and Simmonds due to category coverage while still putting up more points than Simmonds. Hall and Subban are studs in your format and need to be your long-term contracts. You also can't afford to lose Schneider as he will be a top goalie for years to come and will be NJ's starter.

While I like Jon Toews, he doesn't HIT, he doesn't PIM.
    He's not your 4-year keeper.

Across-the-board defensemen are very, very rare.
    Assuming positions are important:
    Subban is your 4-year keeper.
The ELITE do-it-all D-men are totally dwindling... with Letang and Chara having left the building.

Goalie value depends on league size.
If you are in a 10-team league... you probably don't need to keep a goalie.
In a 12-team league... I'd probably keep Schneider over Simmonds.

I like Simmonds, but it is very easy to stock PIM/Hits in another way... preferably, with PIM/BLOCK/HIT D-man like Radko Gudas.

    My list:
    Subban (4)
    Hall (3)
    Toews (2)
    Schneider or Pavelski (2)

    Welcome to the boards!!!
Schneider will be a workhorse next year for NJ - as I expect Brodeur is done... and Schneider should fall in somewhere between 65-70 starts, top five GS in the NHL.

I'm on board with Peng. Subban/Hall is tough for me but those would be my top 2. I'd keep Schneider over Simmonds as has been said, moving forward he is an elite starting goalie and I find Hits/Blocks/PIMs replaceable

I also agree with Pengwin7... Subban is automatic 4yr, and Hall should be 3 yr... I would take Toews and Pavelski with the 2yrs if it were me.

Another voter for Pengy - I think I would try and redraft Schneider - unless goalies are at a premium then I would keep him. If you get Schneider next year and he has a big year can you get him on a 4yr contract then ?

Thanks for the welcome and feedback guys!

It is a 12 man league, and I forgot to mention we do have a 5 man farmteam. I held on to 3 prospects and will add two more at the draft (Gudas, Mantha,Gibson)

You guys opened my eyes on Toews. (maybe I had a man crush on him or something), but I find him and Hall pretty close in all stats (hall more points/Toews more SHP + better plus/minus) With Hall being a bandaid which scares me a little long term.

I think I will try and get some picks for Toews at the draft based on your input.

    Good call stew,

I think I have the best chance at getting Schneider out of the players listed at the draft. And if he has a solid year could sign him to the 4yr contract, or a 2yr contract.

This makes alot of sense to me now. Thanks for the great break down

So Goalie stats are only 4 cats, versus 9 Skater cats next year?
I would be cautious waste the long contracts on goalies not named Rask/Price/Quick.
    I would keep:

    Subban (4)
    Hall (3)
    Toews (2)
    Schneider (2)

Schneider is finally going to be the full-time starter next year, and like the other guys said- Hits PIMS Blocks are easy to find. A player like Gudas (again, mentioned above) is one of my favorites, and likely easily available later on.
