    Default Colorado, What-If..

Was just pondering about their success this season, which has seemingly been led by Varlamov. Which had me also thinking about their recent trades and how their team would have looked otherwise:

    GONE:
    Shattenkirk
    Stewart
    Forsberg (their pick)

    FOR:
    Varlamov
    Johnson
    McClement

Not so bad after all? Winner, losers?

The Varlamov deal is definitely a win. Not sure they wouldn't prefer to have Shattenkirk than Johnson though. And Stewart for their fourth line maybe.

Its certainly looking like a win right now for Colorado. The 2 first round picks they gave up for Varly were pretty much wasted. They used one of the picks to draft Forsberg, who they traded for Erat (waste) and they traded the other one away for Ribeiro, who isnt even on the team anymore.

it looked like a bad trade at the time, but given what we know now about chris stewart it looks alright. i doubt colorado regrets it at all.

Yeah, I basically look at it as Shattenkirk for Johnson, which I can only call a win for St. Louis no matter what voodoo Patrick Roy has worked on Johnson this year.

I remember thinking how bad a trade it was at the time, but starting to pan out. Johnson was a high touted prospect too so hopefully he continues to develop.

Shattenkirk was a tremendous loss...Varly a great (and somewhat unexpectedly so) acquisition...I think the moves they've made can't be viewed just as single pieces, the overall balance and 'build' of the team is well conceived and that's why they've done so well this year
