The flaw is goalie scoring. (just my 2 cents)

A goalie that wins the Stanley Cup (!!!) is going to win 16 games (16pts) and maybe get two shutouts (+2pts).
That's perhaps 18pts... for picking the goalies on the team that win the Stanley Cup!!!
That's WAY too low - to get only 18pts for pegging a Stanley Cup winning goalie.

Most people, instinctually, picked goalies on a GOOD team because we typically associate having high-quality goalies with winning fantasy hockey championships.

If a team happens to win the Stanley Cup... it might be close... forwards vs. goalies... around 20pts.
But if a GOOD team goes down in the conference finals - or in the Cup finals... the goalies will be more around 13-15pts... and forwards should easily top them.

So why cap out your goalie slot on a good team when a team's top skater will typically beat the goalie.

More sensible is to just "burn your goalie slot" away since it's a crap scoring.
Goalie scoring should be W=2pts, SO=3pts.
Anybody in a points-only scoring knows this is proper weighting for goalies vs. skaters.

Any team that is expected to go far - should have a skater pick... except maybe STL, where Miller could potentially outscore all STL skaters.

Teams that will be eliminated earlier - should have a D or G pick.
Thus, I "burned my goalie slot" on TB goalies... and I have absolutely no problem watching them get 0 pts for me there.

    for once I disagree Pengwin.

Last season playoffs only 5 skaters scored more than 16 pts, thus the goalie IS important to me.. I rather have a skater out in round 1 with 4 pts, than have a goalie out with 2...

That's why I took Lundqvist. Figured he could outscore any Ranger as well. Although Brad Richards is alive again, so who knows.

Shoot, I did not see that. Most pools are usually 2 + 2 for the goalies.

I personally dislike lots of points associated with goalies. For that very simple fact. It's more about picking the stanley cup winning team than anything else.

Now I know, the same can be said about picking players, but I'd rather not have pools largely won by picking the right goalie. Whereas players give you a bit more flexibility in your drafting.

That seems high to me. A goalie that wins the Cup with 2 shutouts ends up with 38 points. By contrast, only three players have scored at least 30 points in one playoffs since the 2004 lockout, and none of them hit 38.

In fact, the last player to get 38 points in the playoffs was Gretzky back in 1993. With your system, you'd be making which ever GM selects the Cup-winning goalie pretty much winning the pool.

Using the OP's numbers, goalies are much more in line with the players. Last year, Rask would have had 19 points, and Crawford 17. Only Krejci had more than 19 points, so Rask would have been tied for second. The year before, Quick would have had 19 points, and the top point-getter had 20. In 2010-11, Thomas would have had 20 points, the leader point-getter had 23 (and only two players had more than 20).

I know you mentioned the semifinals might have more of a disparity, but I still think the 2 for a win, 3 for a shutout is too extreme.

Maybe a different way of doing it would be to award an extra point for an OT win. Or have wins be one point, but a shutout worth three.

Another option, but probably way too much work for the OP, wins are worth more each round. In the first and second rounds, a win is one point, in the third round, it's two points, and in the finals it's three points. That way, the Cup winning goalie is around 28 points (not including shutouts).

You'd probably have to crunch the numbers in such a way that it makes more sense depending on when teams are eliminated. But I don't think it would be a good idea to give the Cup winning goalie an extra 10-12 points more than the highest point getter.

Writer of the weekly Top 10 column.

12-team Keeper pool, straight points for forwards & dmen. Goalies get: 2 points per win, 3 per shutout, 1 point per assist & 1 point per shootout loss.

    League champ in 2013, 2015, 2018, 2020 and 2022.

Top 8 forwards, 5 dmen and 2 goalies count.

We keep 15 players (any position) plus two rookies.

Forwards: Panarin, Ovechkin, Kopitar, Stamkos, Tuch, Rust, Marchessault, Pavelski, Miller, Bertuzzi, Stone, Kakko, Brown, Stankoven, Kovalenko
Defence: Hedman, Fox, Matheson, Thrun, Jiricek
Goalies: Kochetkov, Talbot, Vasilevskiy, Campbell, Schmid

Doesn't really matter what the points are for a position as everyone has the same opportunity to pick the players in this type of pool. The challenge is to pick the winning teams. That why Dobber sells his playoff stats. Worked great as I had to shuffle my picks early in the draft, on the fly.
