    Default [re-signing] Andrew MacDonald

    http://flyers.nhl.com/club/news.htm?id=714852
The Philadelphia Flyers announced that they have signed defenseman Andrew MacDonald to a multi-year contract extension today, according to general manager Paul Holmgren.

MacDonald was acquired by the Flyers around this year's trade deadline on March 4 from the NY Islanders, and since joining the team, has four assists in 19 games and recorded over 20 minutes of ice-time in 14 of those games, including a Flyers-high of 28:49 at Pittsburgh on Apr. 12.

The 6-1, 190-pound defenseman led all NHL players in blocked shots this season with 242 and was one of three players in the NHL with over 200 blocks.

He finished the season with four goals and 24 assists for 28 points in 82 games between the Islanders and Flyers.

Yup, looks like I won't be keeping him on my salary roster next season, LOL. If you own him in a salary league that uses Blocks, then you're crying right now. If you're a PIT fan, you're on the floor pissing your pants laughing.

Yeah, I traded for him midway through the season in my league that is adding Blocks. We use the actual yearly salary, not cap hit, so I am really hoping the deal starts out low and grows.

My league is exactly the same with using actual annual salary instead of cap hit. Unless his deal is back loaded with a low 1st yr rate of $3.0 mil, I don't think I can afford to keep him anymore.

Dear Andrew, you've been a good friend to me for the last couple years. I will miss you a lot old friend, Good-Bye!

Defensemen are expensive...... yeesh. McDonald gets 5 (!), Phaneuf gets 7 (!!), does Subban get 12!?!?!?! This is getting out of hand. I hope Subban's agent doesn't read this.. But he's likely asking for 20 anyway....

    Yup, that's me.
What a beast he was in my salary cap league where his low-salary allowed me to move him up/down from my main roster.
My worst cap hit player change this season. Yugg.

Keep writing about this... the bargains get paid eventually and sometimes it's not pretty. Time to find a new cheap wagon to ride for a few years...

That was my joke - saying $4 million was too much, then asking for a calculator, and then my eyes popped out of my head.

Overpaying mediocre defensemen is the new chasing goalies out of town in Philadelphia. Woof, they are going to regret that deal immediately.

I know...I've been complaining about this all over the forums of late. I simply can't afford most dmen in my salary cap league any longer. Used to be you could grab a few decent offensive dmen for under $2 million. Now, I'm hoping not to spend more than $4 million, and even those are hard to find.

This is why I said Roman Josi's $4 million deal would wind up looking like a steal.

So true, he IS a steal and proved it this year, when many thought Jones would usurp. Not yet!

I suppose if Timonen isn't back they're desperate for D, but man oh man is that getting pricey. The cap is climbing, dollars just aren't what they were anymore..
