Default Massive Trade Offer for Next Season

So my league ended Sunday (back to back champ, thank you very much!) and I was expecting a nice quiet offseason to rest and relax before I get back into GM mode. Low and behold however, I received this massive trade offer this morning and am seriously considering it, though I'm a bit torn.

    I give:
    Giroux
    Strome
    Price

    I get:
    Crosby
    Skinner
    Lehner

Obviously, Crosby is the best player in the world. However I won the league this year mostly on the strength of my goaltending as pretty much every single one of my star forwards spent. Goaltending is also at a huge premium in our league (I have zero chance of being able to draft a starter next fall). Part of me thinks this is a great trade for my team whereas the other part thinks I should just stand pat as my roster dominated this year. What do you think?

I would stand pat with what you have. Lehner "should" be good but you trading on potential. They moved Strome to wing last game so maybe he plays top two lines next year? Maybe even play with Tavares? I used to own skinner but got worried after the concessions. Thats my two cents. And ya Crosby is Crosby but why mess with your team if you won this year?

I like that trade but if you won your league with strong goaltending I'd stand with what you have. Price is one of the best and no reason to trade him away in that deal.

It isn't very often that I advise against acquiring Crosby, and before I had a close look at your signature and the scoring format used in your league, I was going to suggest you accept the deal. However, upon further review, I think it is better to stick with what you have. If you had decent goalies beyond Price and Varlamov, I'd probably make that deal, but you simply cannot afford to only have one legitimate starting goalie in this particular league. The scoring format really favors strong goal-tending, which makes the difference between Price and Lehner astronomically greater than the difference between Crosby and Giroux.

To add more, I've never seen a league that places so much value on goalies. Your league actually has more goalie categories than skater categories. Plus, with the negative points for losses, you absolutely much have solid goalies.

Simple situation here... Crosby is the best player in the world. You do not need the best player in the world considering your offensive arsenal. You do however need solid goaltending. You currently have that.

Bottom line, don't screw up what you currently have and need (goalie stats) in order to pile up something you already have and don't need more of (offensive stats)!

    Stand pat

C- Crosby, Barzal, Bennett, Schmaltz, Novak
W- Forsberg, Batherson, Nichuskin, Tuch, Konecny, Maccelli, Sharangovich, Bertuzzi, Kaliyev, Neighbours, Reichel
    D- Carlson, Rielly, Klingberg
    G- Hellebuyck, Demko, Merzlikins, Vejmelka

Pretty easy to break this down in a points league.

First of all, we'll remove Strome and Skinner from the equation to keep things simpler. Hard to know what Strome will provide, and Skinner has nice value but a decent injury history as well. Ultimately in a limited keeper, you want the best palyers at each position. We can decide if that swap sways things at the end.

I think we can say this past season is pretty representative of what we would get from Crosby, Giroux and Price, but for Lehner we'll have to make a few assumptions as his role will likely grow moving forward.

    First: Crosby vs Giroux
    G (3), A (2), PIM (.3), P/M (1)

    C: 36(108), 68(136), 46(14), 18(18) total of 276 over 80 games, 3.45/GP
    G: 28(084), 58(116), 46(14), 07(07) total of 221 over 82 games, 2.70/GP

Crosby is the clear winner providing an extra 0.75 point per game

    Second: Price vs Lehner
    W (5), L (-2), S (.2), GA (-1), SO (3)

    P: 34(170), 20(-40), 1828(366), 134(-134), 6(18) total of 380 over 59 GP for 6.49/GP
    L: 12(060), 15(-30), 1141(228), 099(-099), 1(03) total of 162 over 36 GP for 4.50/GP

Price is the clear winner providing an extra 2.0 points per game!
It's likely Lehner performs better then he did last season with a more consistent roll, so maybe we optimistically bump him up a full point to 5.50/GP. This still leaves him a full point behind Price.

    Some additional points:
    - It's likely a goalie only plays 60 games a year, so your points per GP will come down a bit based on the quality of your backups, but this still doesn't lower them to the level of the leagues best skater.
    - Even if you go on a percieved difference of 1 point per game between Price and Lehner, it is still not enough to make up the 0.75 difference between Crosby and Giroux.
    - You can likely argue that skinner makes up the remaining difference, but I personally worry about his longterm health and performance, but the argument is there.
    - Ultimately the game breaker for me, is that given your goalie stats, if Price has a phenomenal year, the points he provides are astronomical vs what Crosby would provide given a phenomenal year. For that reason, I stand pat with Price.

As an aside, the points your league awards for saves seems much too high resulting in a significant boost to goaltender value over skaters. I would look to knock that down to 0.1.

Thanks for the responses so far, everyone. Rep given to each of you. I have to say I'm somewhat surprised that the general feeling is to stand pat but it does confirm my initial feeling. I'm going to try a counter, see if I can land Sid for Giroux and Holtby/Scrivens ++

You can definitely try but I am sure the only reason he offered Sid was to snatch Price away from you. Given this league format, Price is easily one of the most (if not the most) indispensable players in your roster.

Just to pile on, I agree standing pat is your best move. Obviously getting Sid is great, but losing Price would leave a huge hole in your lineup. You really can't bank on Varly replicating his numbers next season, and if his numbers dip you're gonna absolutely need Price.

I would do it. So what if you won this year? If you're not changing you're dying. Get crosby and move one of your other numerous studs for a good goalie...

Have your tried swapping Price for Varly? Stats wise, Varly was better. This is a big gamble on both sides I think. Varly could very well duplicate his numbers, making this trade a win for him. But if he slips, this is a win for you. But if he goes somewhere in between his best and worst case scenarios, this is an even trade. You both get to have star goalies, both get 100pt guys, and both get some youth. However skinner is better than Strome.
