Default Ryan Miller next year. Will he re-sign with St. Louis?

I haven't followed any contract negotiations between Miller and the Blues. Does anyone know if the two parties have discussed an extension? Do you know if there is a strong possibility that Miller re-signs with the Blues?

I suppose they might want to see how the playoffs go, but perhaps Miller has already publicly stated that he intends to try Free Agency (similar to what Halak said with Washington). I really have no idea and wonder if anyone else has heard anything.

He said in interview and maybe multiple interviews that he'd like to stay in St. Louis. I personally think he re-signs regardless of the playoff outcome. What I think will be determined by these playoffs is the deal he gets from them based on what happens in the playoffs.

I think he'll resign there, but speculation is, his playoff performance will dictate cost (many think if they don't go deep, they wont bring him back). Hard not to believe they wouldn't resign him based on what they gave up.

I think STL will make an offer, in relation to how he played for them in the playoffs, and whether he likes that price or not will dictate if he stays or not.

His atrocious play as of late has me no longer keeping him going into next year. I really hope he gets it together, but if not I can hopefully buy low on him in via draft or early season trade next year

I think he ultimately will re-up with St. Louis, but I suspect he may have to take a little less money to do it...and he might accept that because he'll still get crazy good money and he'll be in an enviable position (great team, great coach especially for a goalie). St. Louis will likely be motivated to get Miller under contract as well, considering that they dealt away Halak and I don't think Jake Allen is ready to assume the number one job.

Nlo doubt he will sign here. Anahiem and any other west coast team doesn't have room for him so the blues are a perfect team for him to sign a long term deal with to try to win a cup.

If they win a cup or go really deep, Miller might price himself out of town. Otherwise, I think it's probably a 70% chance he re-signs.

Miller wants to win, I'm like 90% sure he will resign, but his play in the playoffs will determine the size of the deal. I would think next yr the St Louis goalie situation would be 1.) Miller 2.) Jake Allen

So NOW, what do we think?

I believe St. Louis has to give up a 1st rounder if they sign him, and I can't see them tripping over themselves to do so. Jake Allen won AHL tender of the year, led the AHL in wins, GAA, Save % and SO's AND his contract converts to a one-way next year. Even after originally signing Miller, Armstrong said "We really believe that Jake Allen is the goalie of the future."

Think I just talked myself into snagging Allen off the wire. Super sleeper of the year potential if they go with Allen/Elliot.

Is it Allen time in St. Louis?

EDIT: Grabbed Allen. I can always drop him later

I'm not sure, but I think it may be Allen time sooner rather than later...

I don't necessarily put too much stock into what we hear team executives say in the media and such, but around trade deadline time the Blues assistant gm went on radio and when asked about the possibility of re-signing Miller, he said that while it might be good to re-sign him, if they didn't get a deal done, it wouldn't be so bad as they had a young goalie in the AHL who was leading in pretty well every goaltending category that mattered... Not sure they throw Allen to the wolves just yet, but he is their future. Allen can play and with the defensive system they have, it could be sooner rather than later. My sense tells me they can't exactly sell that to the fan base and need a legit starter, but if Miller couldn't cut it, then who's an experienced starter that could!?!

With a strong camp, we might see more Allen than less. Elliott is gone as an FA in my mind.. or will stay cheap to split.

I remember reading back a while ago that he wanted to sign in Anaheim/out west next year because his wife is an actress. I can see Anaheim having interest in him as well. I guess it would depend on contract/term for both sides.

STL will make a lucrative offer to Miller. That's for sure. It doesn't matter at all that he shat the bed in playoffs, but if STL don't sign Miller long term the GM is getting fired for paying that much for a rental. The GM hasn't got any other option other than to try to sign Miller´.

I know his wife is from the west coast/California area. He lives there in the offseason, and I’m pretty sure he requested a team close to Cali during the trade time. St Louis asked Miller to play deep in his net to make it easier for the D to clear pucks and such, while in Buffalo he played very aggressive. This might have been too much of a change for him and that’s why he suffered.

If I was St Louis, my goal would be to sign Miller nice and cheap, like 4mill max and not too long (3yrs?), try and convince him your team will win, split duties with Allen for 1 year (2015/16 season) , and make Allen your No1 3 yrs from now (last yr of Millers contract).

However, Miller might just be money oriented instead of “I just wanna win the cup”, so he could jet. Now, an odd circumstance could happen. Anaheim is prolly going to want another goalie, they could go 3 ways, stick with Anderson and sign a backup, go with a 1a 1b split with Anderson and another goalie, or make Anderson backup a star goalie. Miller could be that star.
Another thing, if San Jose loses this series would a total tear down happen? Then San Jose may be looking for a star goalie.
