    Default Where to draft Sharp?

The poor guy is in the top 10 for goals, points, and shots, yet he’ll inevitably he drafted something like 24th in your pool. This is a public service announcement for Mr.Sharp. He should be considered a top 15 player for 2014-15 – Chicago’s core will be back and I don’t see why he won’t provide similar production.

That said, he's 32, and I know that is an age where we have to be mindful of decline. Where is he on your draft board?
I once traded Henrik Lundqvist and Ilya Kovalchuk in return for Peter Budaj and Henrik Zetterberg… have lived in shame ever since.

He won't be kept in my league, so he will be available in what would be the 6th round (keep 5). I will for sure take him with my 9th overall if he is available. In a league where keepers aren't in place, I would probably take him 3rd or 4th, after I get a top end forward and goalie.
    10 Team keeper league
    (9F, 4D, 2G, 4 bench, 2 IR)

Keep 6 (potentially 7 with a vote pending)

2012/2013: 4th in reg season, 2nd in playoffs
    2013/2014: 1st (t) reg season, 4th in playoffs
    2014/2015: 1st reg season, 4th in playoffs
2015/2016 7th reg season (third highest PF)

Crosby, Malkin, Laine, Getzlaf, Radulov, Arvidsson, Rantanen, Bailey, W. Karlsson, Ducehene,Haula,

Odds are this is his career year. Think he'll probably be overvalued going into next season.

Agree with Daydream. He's never broken 80 points, and this is only the second time he's been above 70. A top-15 pick next year is overvalued.

Next year, I'd take Crosby, Malkin, Stamkos, Giroux, Ovi, Hall, Tavares, Kessel, Karlsson, and Seguin over Sharp. That's 10 players there. Throw in five or six top goalies, and then guys like Benn, Getzlaf, P. Kane, Perry, Duchene, Neal and a few other guys that I'm probably forgetting. That leaves Sharp around 25, which is right where he should be. And I could see him slipping to 30 if more goalies are gone early, and people believe guys like MacKinnon and RNH can take that next step next season.

Writer of the weekly Top 10 column.

12-team Keeper pool, straight points for forwards & dmen. Goalies get: 2 points per win, 3 per shutout, 1 point per assist & 1 point per shootout loss.

    League champ in 2013, 2015, 2018, 2020 and 2022.

Top 8 forwards, 5 dmen and 2 goalies count.

We keep 15 players (any position) plus two rookies.

Forwards: Panarin, Ovechkin, Kopitar, Stamkos, Tuch, Rust, Marchessault, Pavelski, Miller, Bertuzzi, Stone, Kakko, Brown, Stankoven, Kovalenko
Defence: Hedman, Fox, Matheson, Thrun, Jiricek
Goalies: Kochetkov, Talbot, Vasilevskiy, Campbell, Schmid

It's a very good year by Sharp (#3 overall in Yahoo! "Rank").
And the last full NHL year by Sharp (#12 overall in Yahoo! "Rank") was also a good one.

I think we can peg Sharp as a top 20 skater... though I bet he'd be on my board more around Skater #20.

Top Six (consensus, IMO): Crosby, Stamkos, Malkin, Ovechkin, Tavares, Giroux
The Next Group (15): P.Kane, Perry, Getzlaf, Toews, Neal, T.Hall, Karlsson, Subban, Kessel, Kunitz, Seguin, Benn, N.Backstrom, Kopitar, Couture, Zetterberg [these are not in order]

SOG is certainly something that is good to bank on.
Yahoo! typically looks back at the last 2-3 years when they come out with their default list, their O-Rank.
If it's the last two years... Sharp will be listed a bit lower, since he wasn't great in the lockout shortened season.
If it's the last three years... Sharp will be listed top 15 by Yahoo!, so there's going to be no value picking of him.

But yes... good point, he's definitely shown top 15 value over the last three seasons, and we consistently forget this since he's 3rd fiddle in CHI.
Sharp finished 11th in the NHL in SOG in 2011-2012 full season.

I wouldn't go as far as to say that this is a career year for Sharp. He looks like he's heading towards actually playing 82 games this year, something he hasn't done since 2009-10. His best season prior to this year was 2010-11 where he got 71 points in 74 games. The year after that, he tallied 69 points in 74 games. So his numbers this year (78 points in 80 games so far) are pretty much on par with his career bests, this guy is a consistent as they come.

Only the age thing worries me a bit for next year, especially if the Hawks go deep this year.

I think we somewhat agree. Because of his age and the fact that he will play 82 games this year, he will be hard-pressed to have a better year than this one. It's not an outlier but I would bet he never breaks 80 pts in a season again.

i think he has another season in him. Can't see the Hawks not being a top scoring team next year. If he plays 80 games, should get at least 70-75 pts.

Interesting. We have the same situation in our pool - 40 forwards are kept overall and amazingly he likely won't be one.

Maybe a bit, 80 points 300 shots is high, but I'd be looking for 70 and 290+, still a top 15ish guy

Great point on the goalies - needing to factor in that a couple of them will go above him. I guess another aspect is plus minus. If you have it as a category than Sharp (by extension of being a Hawk) will likely be strong again next year. Bumps him above guys like Staal who will be carrying a minus in all likelihood.

They have the whole core in place, no reason to think a steep decline is coming
