I would take the deal. MSL's best days are behind him and who knows how many more years he has left in him. If he continues to struggle in New York next year it may be his last in the NHL. Yakupov will most likely be moved during the off season and will go to a team that will let him live up to his potential instead of hindering it.

I would take this deal as well. As others mentioned, MSL is on the decline and I just don't see him putting up great numbers in New York. Yakupov's value could also increase over the Summer if the Oilers find a new coach and/or trade Yak, at which point you likely won't be able to get him for MSL. Your team will well built and can definitely afford to take this "risk". It's a pretty easy accept for me.

I guess I'm just jaded by the fact that my excellent GM'ing skills (/sarcasm) landed me a much more favorable package when I moved on MSL, although he wasn't in a NYR sweater at that point. The return I got was Huberdeau + Jake Gardiner + Derrick Pouliot for MSL and some spare parts. I just feel like you could squeeze a little bit more out of the guy for MSL. Just my .02

Thanks for the input everyone. The other GM is having second thoughts but it's not far off, so I could probably work something out (might just have to toss in a mid-round draft pick). Rep coming your way!

My personal perspective is torn since Yak torched me this year...I protected him over Tarasenko.
If you believe Yak will be the guy most thought he would become reflective of the points in the guide, then yes, make the deal.
If Yak starts to become that player and your league is age-phobic this offer doesn't happen again.
I would hope MSL still has plenty in the tank...you want the first year to be a benefit for your trade partner...fleece them and they never come back to the table...year 2 of this deal will be the year you want to reflect if it was worthwhile.
I hope you're patient because this one might test your resolve a bit as it has done me.

Even if St.Louis leads the league in playoff scoring, I am still making this trade..

Yakupov is too talented not to produce in the NHL.. Its called a sophomore slump guys!!

I would keep negotiations open and string this along during the playoffs. If St.Louis ups his game and has a great playoff it will only help your return. That said, yes, I would strongly consider a deal centered around MSL for Yakupov if I were in your shoes... but I would be a little patient.
