I like Shanny, but oh boy, the Leafs? What exactly does a President do on a hockey team? How much does he influence the GM? Obviously, they should work together and bounce ideas off each other, but if Shanny and Nonis aren't on the same page, bye bye Nonis.

-fire carlyle.
-trade phaneuf in a deal for a center. phaneuf/stastny kind of deal.
-try and trade clarkson for anything, maybe a team like edmonton would bite? if not possible, then he gets 3rd line minutes at best. at no point should he ever be in the top 6 unless he finds his groove again.
- sign someone like orpik and play him with one of gardiner/reilly, the other can go with franson
i really hope some big changes occur in the offseason. leafs have no depth whatsoever, worst bottom 6 in the league.

Actually his cap his is only something like 5.5M I think (I didnt look at capgeek but I think its around there). I wouldnt have an issue with the Oilers getting him but his value is pretty low and I can't see many teams offering up much to acquire him. I think he would fit in quite nicely in Edmonton, if the price going out was right.

I much prefer when individuals entering into management have served in similar roles before. I'm not sure if Shanahan has had an opportunity to develop the skills he'll need for a role like this. Being in the league is a good thing, but I'm not sure how many of his Sheriff duties will overlap with being President of the leagues most valuable franchise.
As a fan, I hope to be proven wrong here.

I love how the media mentions that he is a hall of famer. Umm, as a player guys. I guess teams should be falling over themselves to sign Gretzky to a Presidential position!? I do like Shanahan, but I also wonder about his management experience and ability at this level.

Orr and Clarkson should run around in the last game and go absolutely crazy, trying to fight everyone on the ice and then leave the penalty box, head to the other team's bench and pull a guy out and pummel him (preferably a star player under 5'9"), then shove a linesman when they are being escorted to the dressing room after they have been kicked out of the game. Shades of Shayne Corson and Darcy Tucker! Shanahan would have to recuse (I'm afraid of recuse spiders) himself and let someone else (Bettman? He is likely the puppetmaster anyway at suspension central). Ah, fun times.
