Default Jaroslav Halak will not re-sign with Washington

    apparently...

    Per TFP

Halak, 28, is set to become an unrestricted free agent this summer.

According to a source close to the situation, TFP has learned that Halak will not sign an extension with the Capitals and will test the open market this July.

My thinking is he'll be a stopgap for a crappy team.

New that was coming, Oates threw him under the bus about the issue of not wanting to start vs St. Louis and talking about it publicly.

I think Holtby has been better than Halak SINCE Halak has been in Washington anyway
    Not THAT hairy, honest!

Time to pickup Holtby before the yokels get wise...maybe Kolzig will stop meddling and he can regain his form.

Would be nice to see him back in MTL - not sure of Budaj's situation though.

Difficult to see him taking a backup deal when there will be a half-dozen needy teams offering him starter's money.

Im gonna take a wild guess and say New York Islanders.
10 team pts-only keeper league - keep 10 plus 10 from past/present farm. No bench: entire active roster counts. Goalies: 2 pts/win + 3/shutout. 82 adds / year. NHL playoffs count for separate prize.

    F: J Eichel, M Tkachuk, J Guentzel, E Pettersson, P Laine, R Thomas, C Kreider, M Boldy, J Kyrou, M Backlund, F Vatrano, N Niederreiter, R Rakell, M Marchment, M Domi
    D: A Fox, S Theodore, R Andersson, B Montour, S Durzi, D Keith
    G: F Andersen, S Knight, J Swayman
    IR: J Hughes, M Stone, M Grzelcyk, S Perunovich
    Farm: L Raymond, O Wahlstrom, S Skinner, C Addison, Y Chinakhov, J Perreault

Islanders and Wild both looking at having openings in net. Also the Jets could use someone to fill Ondrej Pavelec's five-hole.

For my sake I would love to see him go to the wild...

    He can't fill Pavelec's five-hole, he's only one man.

Looks like I'll want to trade for Grubauer this offseason so I still have the Washington handcuff. I've owned Neuvirth, Varlamov, Holtby and now Halak. It was VERY annoying when Grubauer was getting all the starts back around December.

Maybe just extricating yourself from the Caps goalie situation entirely would be the best move.
