    Default Jamie Benn revisited

Is anyone else drooling over what the future holds for this kid? The more I watch him play the more I think he has the raw talent, size, grit and hands to be one of the best forwards in the world. And it seems as if he finally has some fun toys to play with in Seguin, Nichushkin, Chiasson, etc. Nobody is Mario but damn he does some things that are very Lemieux-esque in style. I can easily see him bagging Getzlaf-like numbers pretty soon (85+). Agree, disagree?

Agree. Largely remained under rated. But I think having Seguin on his line and some young talent on the team is going to bring a lot of attention his way. You gotta be impressed from his play in Socchi as well.

I'd peg him at 85+ from here on out.

    Ha! Ridiculous statement.
There are a whopping 3 guys that are on pace for that right now. 4-5 could get there with a solid finish.
Assuming 85+ for anyone not named Crosby is silliness.

Benn: 76 pts in 79 games.

With seguin having 82 pts in 77 games.

I find it hardly a laughable or ridiculous statement. We are taking about a 24 year old year, who is hitting his stride and developing chemistry with a great centre.

I think I would also put Stamkos, Giroux, Tavares, AO and Malkin in that 85+ bracket. Maybe even Getz.

Really? If healthy, I think Crosby, Stamkos, Malkin, Tavares, PKane are all solid bets for 85+ and Ovechkin, Getzlaf and Neal should be close. And just to clarify, I don't suspect Benn will be an 85 point player EVERY year but I see him hitting that in a season soon. I also think he could end up on par with guys like PKane, Giroux, Getzlaf and Backstrom offensively.

I always thought Benn would hit 85.
    Seguin should break 90.

Nobody is hitting 85 with regularity. Crosby is the only one that, when healthy, is a lock. Stamkos and Giroux are in the mix as very good bets.

This year, you've got Getz, probably Seguin and Perry (assuming a good last couple games), and maybe Giroux. Stamkos was injured, but we'll have to see what life after St. Louis will be before we can be sure.

In the last, full season, there was Malkin, Stamkos, and Giroux.

The fact that you listed 5 guys, with 3 honorable mentions, shows that these are lofty. It's been years since 8 guys hit even PPG.

I'm not denying his talent. 85+ is a good statement of upside. But saying "from here on out" is silliness.
I guess I'm just a fan of realism when it comes to projections. And 85 points "from here on out" isn't realistic in this NHL. There aren't 10 85+ guys in the NHL in any given year.

Could you say he's a top ten talent from here on out? That'd be more fair. And even then, I'm not sure I'd be anointing him until he's done it more than once (or even once for that matter -- hasn't done it yet!)

Yes I think Benn and Sequin will be a nice duo for a few years going forward, hopefully like Getzlaf & Perry. Have him in my $$$ pool and he exceeded expectations this year, so looking for bigger and better things next year.
Don't think 85 pts is out of line if he plays 75-80 games next year.

Over a full season, I see no reason not to expect 80-85 points from Benn regularly.
I can't promise I'll try but I'll try to try.

I've doubted Benn in the past... shouldn't have (I'll accept that mistake and admit it).
He's an 80+pt guy. Love him.
(and I have perhaps about 10 players, 15 max, that I'd classify as "80+pt guys".)

A couple of beauty passes tonight to setup goals. He's currently 1 point away from 80 and has 1 game and 1 period left to do it.
